How do i get my mic working?

How do i get my mic working? I go into settings and bind a key to talk. I do the talk test and nothing. I am using a mic that is plugged into my usb port. Under settings i have c-media usb headset for output and input device. What else can i do to get it to work? Ohh i also updated the version so it is updated.

Start>Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Controls>Advanced>Options>Propertes>Recording(Make sure all boxes are ticked)>OK>Tick the One for microphone>make sure that the volume is all the way up> click advanced for mic boost.
