Hello all!

Thank you for the valuable information I have found on these forums.

Recently, I moved my wireless router and cable modem (Netgear & Motorola respectively) upstairs. it used to be in my basement connected to an old PC I don't use and the PC was always on. After moving the router and modem upstairs and connecting it to a PC, I was unable to get it working again even after rebuilding the server. Because of signal weakness at that jack, I have since moved the router and modem to a different jack with nothing else on it. The house is old and the cable wires as well, so this is not an unusual problem for me hehehe. Anyhow, I was wondering if the router and/or modem requires a connection to a PC in order for TS to work. Can I have the Server running on a computer that is connected wirelessly to my LAN instead of directly connected to one? I am probably goign to just bring the old PC up to get this running again, but I thought I would ask the question.

Thanks in advance.

Normally you should be able to connect to a router wirelessly without any cable connected to it.

Wireless or not should not make the difference. You MUST remember though if you have a computer that has a LAN port and a wireless card in it, that computer is gonna have 2 different IP's. So you have to forward to the right ip.

Example:
You have a laptop, you use to use a cord (LAN port) to run your server. Now you switched to its wireless card.
The LAn port ip was: 192.168.1.100, which is what your router was forwarded to.

Now your LAN port is disconnected so that ip no longer exists, so that ip is gone, and since the server is now on wireless, the wireless cards ip is: 192.168.1.102.

You must now reforward your ports to 102, i hope this helps.
(good rule of thumb: if you can browse the internet and download at a decent speed 30+ kb/s, you can run a small TS server)

The ips will be different, those are just example ips.
