I'm having problems speaking, when i press the talk button it makes a strange sound (like a drum beating) I hear it and so do others. I have updated the drivers and tried changing the sound settings, and get the same results. Any suggestions

I am using the same soundchip on my ASUS A7V333 motherboard I have updated both Windows, Drivers and BIOS and I have NO problems what so ever. Try to update the BIOS, I don't know if you already have, but the drivers alone may not be adequate.
I have the same motherboard as Tzar[BAD], I have the latest bios update, drivers, and Windows XP patches, I am getting the same response.
tried 8bit recording yet?
Settings - options
Tell me if that works.
No, but I have tried both Direct and Wave. I'll give 8 bit a try tonight, although I don't believe that should make a difference. I'll keep you posted here.
I set for 8 bit, and it's working.
To those using C-Media CM8738, in options set to direct sound and 8 bit, it works great.
Good luck

Well after lots of setting changes and driver updates (including bios). I discovered that it only does it when there are no open windows. So in the games it works fine. If i'm using it while not in a game I just open a browser window and it stops.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys

I have the same on board sound, and I have a totally differnt problem. When i speak, my team can hear me, and i can hear myself through the headset. BUT i cant hear ANYONE on my team. And i know their stuff is working because they can hear each other. So i can talk to them but cant hear them.
