I am trying to use PuTTy to install the teamspeak server. I successfully extracted it on the server, but when I try to start the server I get an error message stating that "either teamspeak is already running or another application is using the tcpquery port..."
Trying to stop the server only generates the error that the server is not running.
I hope someone here can help, because I just spent 20 minutes chatting with my hosting provider and he finally told me that they do not provide support for installing teamspeak.
================================================== ================
I guess I should mention that I have not previously run teamspeak or ever installed it from the current server.
use ps -a to see if it is running.
Use netstat -aon to see what app is taking up the port that is needed.
Either change the port number to be used or end the other app.

Thank you so much for your response.
Okay. I ran ps-a and got the following:
[smithdri@host224 ~]$ ps -a
PID TTY TIME CMD
465 pts/0 00:00:01 vim
10627 pts/1 00:00:00 bash
10830 pts/1 00:00:00 ps
32454 pts/0 00:00:00 bash
[smithdri@host224 ~]$
 Now the only problem is that I have no idea what it means and how to fix it.
I ran netstat -aon and got a huge scrolling list that got cut off and did not allow me to go back over it, and again,.
I don't mean to be a pain, and I apologize for my n00bishness, but I really have no idea what to do next. Any assistance or direction would be SO appreciated. Thanks!

Remove the "server.pid" file in the directory where teamspeak is installed.

There is no server.pid anywhere that I can find.
We've installed the server on our own computer and all seems to be working for the time being. I guess that's sufficient since my husband doesn't expect too many participants at any given time.
Thank you everyone for all of your help.
(If anyone still has suggestions or instruction, let me know. I'd still like to move the server onto my hosted space eventually.)

Then there is another process using the same port. Open the server.ini file for editing. Changed the port used for administration. Not sure if this is the issue but give it a try.
