Teamspeak is running perfectly on Ubuntu 7.10, I can hear everyone fine, they can hear me fine. (Great, worked out of the box.)

However, if I then start a game (example: WOW) or open amarok or a video, I can not hear ANY sound from those, Amarok complains about the audio device being in use etc etc.

I have tried changing audio devices only to find teamspeak no longer works.

I had a search on the forums for similar topics but I could only find a couple of English results in a sea of German ones. If I've missed any topics please link them to me, oh and before I go, I read the sticky and tried some of the items in there, such as changing the shortcut to run a different sound system, but they still seem to use OSS, so teamspeak still works and I still have no other audio.

I know this is a old thread but I just registered so...

Ok, what I'm using to get around this problem is alsa-oss-1.0.15. For me alsa-oss-1.0.14 didn't work and that's the one in the Ubuntu repo.

So unless you can find a deb package your going to have to compile alsa-oss-1.0.15 from scratch it's really easy if you have your build environment working well. if you don't, then well, I might be able to help you with that :).

You can donwload alsa-oss here (ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/oss-lib/alsa-oss-1.0.15.tar.bz2)

If you have everything you need to build it, you should just be able to unpack it and type: make && make install

Well if you made it this far then all you have to do is...

cd to your TeamSpeak directory.
run TeamSpeak in the terminal like this: aoss ./TeamSpeak.

And that's all, if you need any help with the compiling part just say so :).

Well anyways hope that helps. Sorry for posting so late :).

Edit:
alsa-oss-1.0.15 doesn't fix the problem sorry :( It seemed like it was working for awhile and then it got buggy again. :(

Ok, Following this (http://www.linux-gamers.net/modules/wiwimod/index.php?page=HOWTO+Sound) guide I got it working with aoss really well. So it has nothing to do with alsa-oss-1.0.15 or 1.0.14. :)

Lets just hope it doesn't break again.

Hello,
" Teamspeak stops all other sounds." is normal, TeamSpeak doesn't support ALSA drivers.
So you need to type "aoss application_name".
The problem is that with aoss, the sound is bad for me.
