New Codec For TS With Stero Mics

Alright, so I was reading the most recent develop blog and there was a mention about a new stereo mic which would work well with the umcoming TS3 program:

"One thing we also added is a new codec which is optimized for ultra-high quality sound, e.g. for music streaming. Apart from the high quality, this codec also lends itself well to transmitting stereo sound. Of course most microphones only produce mono, but for transmitting music or those lucky guys out there with stereo microphones this new codec will rock."

I'm currently looking for a new microphone and I feel like spending a decent bit of money on one (roughly $100 dollars). Can anyone explain what microphone the devs are speaking of and suggest some for me?

Hi there,

I would recommend you get a decent headset instead of shopping for a stereo microphone. I don't know of any Headsets for the PC that come with Stereo Microphones (I don't know if it would make much sense for them in any case, since the Mouth to Mic is always approximately the same angle and distance, so you wouldn't notice any "stereo" effects).
Stereo Microphones are usually stand-alone microphones that could be used to great benefit e.g. at a conference, where they put the microphone in the middle of the table, and the listener will then actually hear from which direction he is currently being spoken to. For normal gaming I think spending the money on a good headset will be much more gratifying.

Alright, thanks Peter for clarifying that. I also have one more question and a suggestion I think that many users of teamspeak would enjoy. Will TS3 allow music to be streamed from a user's computer? Whenever my friends want to play a song they always have to play it through their speakers into their microphone. Will teamspeak 3 incorperate something that will allow music to be steamed? Sort of like a teamspeak DJ for example? I think this would be a wonderful addition to teamspeak 3.
