View Full Version : Issues connecting to new server - offline first go-round, connects ok second time

Good afternoon!

So my buddies and I have plinked at this for about a month now trying to figure out the details without posting, but I am running out of ideas. Here is my setup:

68.15.104.229:8767

Teamspeak is running on a Windows XP PC sitting inside my network. I have all relevant ports forwarded to the internal IP...and get 'green lights' when running one of the TS Connection tests on various sites.

The PC is set to be "always on" - no sleep mode, etc that I am aware of.

However...often the first time someone (including myself) tries to connect, it will say the server is offline. Usually it connects the second time. But even while I am logged on (remotely, not locally) others seem to have trouble connecting. Every now and again it connects and works fine...other times it does not.

I can provide any information needed and would love some suggestions. I have full access to the router config and PC...and can provide the TS config file as well - I am just not sure what would be helpful and what would not.

Thanks for any assistance!

Wired? Any firewalls?

Thanks for the response BHKai.

It is wired, and between the router and PC - no firewalls. Here is my setup:

Outside World => Cable Modem => Cisco2651 Router => Switch => PC

The switch has no configs...it is a straight pass-through with DHCP controlled by the router. However - the PC is locked down with a Class 1 10.X.X.X address. I also turned off Windows Firewall on the PC to see if it made a difference. Didn't seem to.

I do have the UDP forwarded from my internal 10.x.x.x:8767 to my external IP listed above...and also have the management ports forwarded as well.

Here is my config file...

And I did "dot" out the ports on purpose.

Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

If someone is on TS does it happen to others that try to connect or is it only the first person on an empty server.

Could you please explain a bit more clear the other end of your network?
Preferablу - supply the tracert to any host outside of your LAN. To planetteamspeak.com f.e.

BHKai - sometimes yes...sometimes no. That was my first thought when I figured it was going to sleep. But I have it set to power on at all times (no sleep), and have the network port "always on" as well.

Daemon - FYI the second hop is the cable modem...which has no IP and tends not to register on anything (cmd window, pingplotter, etc)

And again - thank all of you for looking at this. It's driven me nuts to the point where I almost gave up. But there IS a solution...I am just failing to see it.

If it doesn't connect the first time, but the second... have you checked the Properties of the NIC in the "Power Management" tab? If it says "Allow the PC to turn off this device to save power" But if it does it when others are on the TS then that might not be the issue, just a thought.

Attached a file to be clear what I'm referring to.

Does your cable connection require any kind of authorization?
If yes, you can move this part to your router, so, basically, you'll have 1 hop less in your tracert and 1 less headache in configuiring portforwards... Consult with your ISP support staff for settings adjustment.
If no... then there's much less options. In fact, one... assign your Router static WAN address that matching your cable modem LAN interface and configure that address as DMZ host on your modem. You'll end up with the same situation as above - only one device to configure and blame about.

tctransporter - found that a while back and activated it...so the LAN port is awake all the time. Even installed a riser LAN card and tried that instead.

Daemon - modem requires no authorization, it's a fairly dumb device (translates is all it does). Coax to RJ-45. I cannot configure the modem, there is no method (for me) to get into it.

The RJ-45 from the modem plugs to the FE 0/1 on my router:

interface FastEthernet0/1
description Outside World
ip address 68.15.104.229 255.255.254.0
ip nat outside
duplex auto
speed auto

Again thanks guys...I feel like I am getting somewhere.

From this point, it seems you have your real IP on your Router WAN interface. Good news indeed.
Now, all you need to check is that you have proper ports forwarded to your TS server.

Thanks Daemon (again). I believe I have all the port forwarding done properly.

When I plug my IP into a port test (68.15.104.229 into http://ts2test.planetteamspeak.com ) - it comes back all greens...which should mean I have everything configured properly on the router.

The biggest issue for me is that I cannot connect locally while in the office (am on a different internal network)...so I have to tinker with this remotely.

one suggest to check if its network related problems with connecting to it
run in command line(start > run > cmd or command) like something like ping google.com -t
and
ping MODEMaddress -t
change modemaddress to IP address of device which have urs internetIP (border of urs network and internet one)
I hope you have pings allowed. dont runn these commands more than once! and let them doing their stuff for like 24 hours or whatever u like to
them click in them back press CTRL+C and look at the results ....
A if there is some losed packets it can be ....
B if there is none losed packets it isnt network(internet/local) related problem
I believe in B....
if so I believe it will require recheck portforwards/firewalls on way
and post screens if u found nothing again

Then you have some sort of filtering between your office computer and internet. You'd better go and ask your network administrator about that to be sure. Take a pack of beer, if that applicable... it could as well help solve your problem ;)
