I'll try n list what I know, what wont work etc

[10:20:25] Connecting to 81.170.82.63:8767
[10:20:28] No reply from server
Maybe the server is offline
or maybe teamspeak is not running on it

Is the error I keep getting with different time stamps.

Story.
My friend and I use to play a game online and use to use team speak to chat.
My friend (gem). Use to use a laptop and team speak was fine on it. She recently broke her laptop and bought a second hand computer. HP Compaq dx2200 Microtower

It's got norten running and it's a windows xp OS. No idea what was on the computer b4 or what could be in settings. With no XP cd she cant format either.

She downloaded Both teamspeak client and server (latest versions)

She forgot her old server info so she set up a new server.
I can locate the server when searching for it by name.
When I try to join it. I get that error.
Her port is 8767. According to server overview.

She has a router and a wired/wireless net for her brothers xbox.
She was on wired net the entire time we tested.

Her Ip address when she right clicks the server icon is.
192.168.1.3

When she visited www.whatismyip.com she got back
81.170.82.63

From the Faq's it suggested that router could be the issue and to change
A part of the server.ini Configuration File.

"Open the file server.ini that is created in the same directory where the server executable is located.

Look for the following line in section [Main Config]:

BoundToIp1=

Modify it like this:

BoundToIp1=213.202.254.117"

I assumed that 213.202.254.117 was just an example
So I got my friend to change That File.
to
BoundToIp1=192.168.1.3
She could connect to her server through IP quick Connect but I couldnt.
so we tried the other

BoundToIp1=81.170.82.63
She couldnt connect to her own server, through quick connect. I couldnt connect either.

We restarted teamspeak server b4 n after both tried.
I also tried to quick connect via server ip (used both the 192 and 81 numbers) and that didnt work, also tried the normal connect via server name for both times she changed the ip bound.

That didnt work.
I thought it might be her server.
I'm using a HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop.
I downloaded and set up my own team speak server.
Im running a vista home premium. Pc cillen 2008 (expires next week) security. I had that firewall turned off and disabled while Doing all tests to see what works.

My server had no password. she got the same error as me trying to joint he server. I tried all the things she did just for me and my ip's

The Ip when I right click the server icon is 10.0.0.2 and when I used www.whatismyip.com it was something different (cant remember) in the 200's or so.

I'm using an ethernet connection because my house has 5~ computers on the net at any one point.

After we both couldnt connect to either of our servers. (I had my server up and running now n then when trying to connect to hers if this would affect results) we tried to connect to random ts servers that were public and had no pass or ppl in them (so not to disturb)

I connected to 2 out of 2. and gem connected to 2/3 and 2/4 (connected/couldnt connect) 2/3 not counting mine. 2/4 counting mine.

Still couldnt connect.

As for the FAQ's

You can connect to some servers but not to the one specific.
Test several servers to make sure the problem lies not within your network configuration but on the server side.
The server hoster may miss a port forwarding or has a bad firewall config (this is often the case when new / network unexperienced user setup servers). Advice the hoster to configure the port forwarding.

I'm computer literate, at least I think so. but I got no idea what to do there and if that's the issue could someone reply with a step by step instructions on how to do it ?

Would really appreciate some help on this because I got no more ideas and just got a lil frustrated at it.

Thank you to all for reading and thank you even more for replying ^^

This is the best post i've ever read. Thank you for the abundance of information. Let's get started.

I also tried to quick connect via server ip (used both the 192 and 81 numbers) and that didnt work, also tried the normal connect via server name for both times she changed the ip bound.

192.168 is considered to be her LAN.
81.170 is considered to be her WAN.

Anyone and everyone that is within her Local Area Network will use the LAN to connect to the server. For example, she will be using her LAN to connect to herself. I assume you are not in her LAN so you will be using the WAN to connect to the server.

So when you had your server set up, you use your LAN # and she will use the WAN #. (WAN = www.whatismyip.com)

Port forwarding sounds like the problem. Think of ports as highways where traffic can flow. If a port is closed, then traffic can't travel. Thus, the solution to the problem is to open up these ports to allow traffic in and out. Here's how.

1. http://www.portforward.com/router
2. Find her router on the webpage and click it.
3. Find Teampseak
4. Follow the instructions.

--- Side note --- If a big thing comes on the screen asking you to buy something, click "skip ad" at the top right.

Then when all is said and done, you should be able to connect to her.

ALSO please note, If she is going to host the server, she'll have to open up ports on her router. You (the client) will have to do nothing. If you host, you will have to open up the ports and so forth.

^Made my day. :o:)

Thank you for the reply and the information on LAN and WAN Networks. I've been working on an assessment piece and didnt get to reply here straight away.

Thank you :) I'll check and get it working next time me and gem are together to work on it. She's not so computer literate.
