View Full Version : Server adress?
Hi
Ive been to www.whatsmyip.com and typed that in but I still cannot connect to my server, that I am hosting locally. However, if I use my local IP (the one that comes up when I right click on the server Icon), I can connect but others cannot.
Help?
LAN = Local area network
WAN = Wide area network ( www.whatismyip.com )
People on your LAN need your LAN ip to connect.
People outside of it need your WAN.
That means that if the people don't live with you, they need your WAN.
You need your LAN because your inside your network.
Give people your WAN to connect
Use your LAN to connect.
Ah thank you.
So I just give them what it says on www.whatsmyip.com and connect using my own local address.
thanks.
exactly and you're welcome.
My little brother just tried to connect using my LAN address and couldn't.
would this indicate a problem?
I assume that by LAN addr you mean like 192.168....

Ive done port forwarding, static IP and still no dice...
This is driving me mad.
Is it just your brother that can't connect or can no1 else connect?
Can he connect to other servers?
