I plugged in my mic, installed teamspeak, rebooted my system. I went to my sound settings and unchecked the mute option, and my mic was working fine, so I checked it to mute it again. I go into teamspeak but for the life of me no matter what settings and options I use, it just won't listen to my mic! Absolutely no noise comes through. I've been on servers and can hear everyone fine, but they can't hear anything comming out of me, even though I'm transmitting. Any idea for the fix?

WinXP and SB Live! Value. I have two different mics and I tried them both, I can hear it fine unmuting on windows, but nothing through teamspeak. Anybody?

you should do the self-test in your teamspeak client... (settings / sound input/output settings / activate local test mode)
Try to play around with your voice activation level and see whether that helps... also you could try pushtotalk.

Maybe your mic-boost isn't enabled, which could cause a problem with voice activation (this will block you out until it's adjusted correctly)...

But WinXP and SB Live! Value aren't a good combination, especially if you're using creative's drivers... there are many problems occuring with those drivers and I could solve all of them myself when I installed kxproject-drivers. :)

Thanks for the information. I got the drivers and they're really nice. However I still get the same problem. I've tinkered with all of the settings and absolutely nothing changes in teamspeak. I get an echo'ing clicky noise now instead of just total silence. I know for a fact that I have my mic plugged in correct, I've tried this with two separate mics, but it seems almost as though teamspeak wants to take sound off of some other part of my soundcard.

With that in mind, yes, I've tried ALL of the various input/output settings through the options menu, but it changes nothing. Sorry, I think I broke your program :D

Can you record yourself in SoundRecorder for Windows? If not then that eliminates a TS issue. If so then we can look towards the settings you have. Also check your voice activation and make sure its not all the way to Shout or something. The clicking is strange :?

By golly you're on to something. Windows sound recorder picks up absolutely nothing... but why? When I unmute my mic in the sound settings it works fine... where are the wires getting crossed??

Ummmm Have you tried to use TS with the mic unmuted from the windows settings??? that might be your problem it was for me when I first tried TS RC1. Hope this can help you :)

so which drivers do you use atm?

if kx-project:
you should open your kx-mixer and go to the tab which is called recording... move up the sliders for AC97
after that go to the tab AC97 and select Mic in the drop-down menu.
Now you should be able to record your voice.

I'm using the kx-project ones, and when I do what you say, I can still hear myself when I unmute the mic, but it still doesn't record anything, no matter what I use as the recorder. I tried recording while I kept the mic unmuted, and it still didn't get anything. Doesn't anybody know where I can download audio codecs, because I seriously think this is the problem occuring, but I can't find any of the codecs on the net.

Forget it, I finally fixed it. The problem was that AC97 was, itself, muted. Now I got it all working, thanks for the help guys!
