View Full Version : serious connection issue - HELP
I have WinXP with the XP firewall turned off and a linksys 4port router. When I first installed the router I could use TS just fine. I upgraded my router firmware and I can no longer connect. I went back to the old firmware and everything went back to the way it was except TS will not connect to the public servers or any server for that matter. In my router, I forwarded the port that was listed in the manual and it didnt work. I then forwarded ports 8000-9000, 10050-10060 and that didnt work. Ive exhausted my feable bag of tricks to fix connection problems. Please help. thanks

if you're just trying to connect to an external server with a ts-client, you normally shouldn't have to open / forward any ports...
Just take your router's manual and search for NAT ("Network Address Translation")... this should help you. if not, perhaps someone with the same router can help you...

PS: also performed a search for your router:

I have upgraded to the latest version of the client TS 2.0.28 and forwarded ports 8767, 14534, 51234. I have XP firewall off and it still will not connect to the public servers. with Linksys router. I dont get it??
I don't know your specific router, but are there any packet filtering rulesettings ?

I suggest upgrading back to the newest firmware as it will provide you with better protection. There is no reason to downgrad nat firmware. Most of the setting stay the same although on occassion some features are added or modified. REad the whats new text or information posted about the update to learn about the changes and modifaction made to your router. With link sys, I just recently walked someone thorugh this exact procedure to host something. Obviously you are not hosting, so there is absolutely no reason to open any ports on your router, it just creates access point for external invasion. NATs do not contorl outbound information by contol inbound information and connections. Since you have upgraded your firmware, it hsould be set to the manufactures defualt meaning there are no virtual servers, no fowards setup, and no packet filtering rules setup. If there are I suggest reseting your router to its manufacturers settings and if need be re install the new firmware.
But as stated above please provide us with the specific model of the router and the version numbers and version dates of your firmware. As there are hundreds of differnt routers and configurations.
There is something fundamentally wrong here, I have turned off XP firewall, I refuse to go back to the upgraded Linksys router firmware, It locked me out of everything. I cleared all my port forwards. It just will NOT allow Teamspeak thru. I changed my router IP from 192.168.1 to 192.168.1.100 and in the transition perior Teamspeak WORKED for about 60 seconds then I lost connection and changed the IP back. Something in that router blocks teamspeak and I cant believe I am the only person with the problem - what is the magic button or code to let me have access? I know its the router.
