I've done some searching (search engine can't count, is of no help right now) but am at a loss as to how to get my TS server (current version) to use the same IP address from day to day so that I don't have to email an IP address to my fellow game players before we all log on. We play WWIIOL which doesn't allow alt-tabbing out to mess w/ stuff - so they all have to have the current IP before starting the game...

Any way they could punch in a server name and have their PCs figure out the IP?

I did read in one response that using a DNS server would make the IP static - any way to do that w/ my PC & 56k dial-up connection?

one example for a dns-provider is www.no-ip.com ... perhaps you should just try it...

btw: you should never use a 56K-Modem as server!

Okay your IP is changing I assume because of DHCP that your ISP uses. The way to go around this is to have a domain point to your IP and have them connect to that.

I suggest myserver.org to do this, you can download a program here http://www.myserver.org/download.asp. That will find what your current IP is and update the domain on the fly. It works really great.

You will have to create an account with them, but it's free anyways and then create a domain. Maybe yourclanname.myserver.org.

They will then just connect to yourclanname.myserver.org:8767.

Oh and make sure to run that program to update the IP for the domain often so that it stays current and works.

Damn you Claus for beating me to the punch!! :P

Yeah don't use dialup cause it would be yucky, if you want good performance use a host like http://klan-host.com .

Thanks you both - I will try out your suggestions. I hope to be able to find a free server eventually. In the mean time, I'll just hope that my 56k connection will support my entire squad (3).

you have a 56k modem, want play over it and beside host a TS server for your squad ?
are you joking ? LOL
Did you ever made a small calculation how much bandwith the game and the TS server will use ?
sorry to destroy your hope, but this will never work.
