View Full Version : TS2 vs RW?
Hi.
has anybody here run a Roger Wilko Base Staion, and if so would you say the TSII client is better or worse. Only reason I ask is because I tried TS2 not long ago and was lagged to buggery - so am still using RW.
Any comparisons would be great.
Cheers

sorry, but all you have to know is how to set it up and then you normally will think that TS2 RC2 is much better than RW... especially because of all of its features and because of the improved sound-quality... (RW sounds robotic while TS2 sounds real when using GSM-Codec).

TS2 RC2 is way better than RW.
the first version of TS2 when it first came out wasnt all that great, TS1.5 was better than it.
TSRC2 is the best out right now compared to RW.
set the bitrate to 16.4kb and itll be good quality, and if your users have good MICs itll be near phone quality.
Search the board for comparisions but summing it all up. TS is much better than RW. If you have problems with lag your connection (dialup?) might not have been able to deal with the codec that was used on that specific server.
Dialup users dont encounter any problems on a CELP 5.1/5.2/6.3 channel though.
Set your Teampseak to high process priority (can be found in the client settings) and make sure that you test "wave" as well as "direct sound" (also in the settings).

Not only that, but it's much easier too use and has many many more options. Hosting a basestation with RW is a pain in the arse with the command line.

It ain't that linear. I've used RW for a couple of years, and I switched to TS 2 or 3 months ago. I wouldn't go back to rw. Butttt rw also has advantages... first it doesn't sound as robotic as some1 said. Is sounds better than any of the CELP codecs, though worst than the GSMs... And the truth is than in quality/bandwith, rw is better... I could host 6 to 8 gays on my rw, and when I host 4 in TS GSM 14, i get ping 999. I use TS, and will continue to use, but because of the features (admining, ability to whisper or talk to different teams, etc.) and not because of the sound :)
I'm glad I switched (mac-like)
Hmm.. if RW sounds better than TS on your system then there is something seriously wrong with the settings. I personally think that TS (even with the celp codecs) does sound better then RW and there are fewer problems with TS aswell. (RW uses TCP for the voicestream which isnt all that suited for real-time applications)

TS2 is vastly superior to RW. We used RW for about a year before switching to TS2. I currently run a server for about 700 users that simply would not have been possible with a RW server.
We range from 50 - 150 players on at a time with few problems (which are normally isolated to the individual player). RW had a huge problem with people "dropping" and ending up on fragmented servers (the peer-to-peer problem).
Since TS2 is a true client-server application - many administrative issues that we had with RW are just not around. Add on top of that permission settings, room creation, recording, and banning and you have a true command and control solution.
TS2 is simply the way to go.
