Can you nice guys at TS make the TS Server install as a service?? Maybe even giving the option when installing the program to install as service or not. This can be very handy for people who run 24/7 servers and the server crashes and reboots itself, that way no one needs to log onto the server for the TS server to run when it boots back up. I am sure you will understand what i mean, but if you need me to further explain then please ask me.

Regards

There is this software called firedeamon. It works far better than having teamspeak itself running as a service.

As far as i am aware, firedeamon is superior to other solutions. You might want to give that a try and if you are looking for further informations just use the search function of this board using "service" or "firedeamon" as searchword.

thanks for the reply i will give it a try.

TS guys should be aware though that most server programs will allow and have some form of service option build into the install. It only makes sense really.

The TS people are aware of that and there has been a service-capability in the TS1 server. Since firedeamon is more powerfull than your standard service (because it allows automated restart in the case of a crash) it has been put in the background for some more pressing matters to be solved first. Thats how I understand it and knowing about firedeamon really gives you more than an adequate solution.

Firedeamon doesn't seem to work on WindowsNT SP6.
I'd be happy if the service option would be build into TS2.

I don't have a particular URL to the Resource Kit files at the moment, but if I find it I will post it up :) (Unless someone beats me to it. ;) ).

Thanks, I'll take a look at it.
It just might do the trick.

Ok the simplest way to do this on a M$ box is copy the TS Server shortcut into your
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

If your server doesnt have a desktop since it's a rack server the next best thing is to write a little batch file

The shortcut to the Startup folder would only work if you actually login to the server. As most WinNT/2k/2k3 servers don't need to have anyone login, this trick wouldn't work.

However, I finally got my TS2 server installed as a service using the tools in the Win2k Server Resource Kit and it's been working perfectly. :) Since I was doing this, I figured I'd share what I did with the rest of the world.

Please note: You MUST read the instructions included in the ZIP file, otherwise it won't install. If you don't RTFM and follow the instructions EXACTLY, I can't and won't help you. I don't mean to sound like a snob on this, but so many people these days don't read the manuals, as evident in these forums. :[

Here's a snip from the instructions:

You'll have to pardon me for such a crude batch file and instructions. I'm not a programmer, and I didn't want to spend a crap-load of time on this so I could get it out to everyone. As a result, there are no error checking routines with the exception of the REMs that need to be deleted.

I can't offer much support for this. I can only assume you are comfortable with editing text files and know how to TRIPLE-check your work. I've tested this both on Win2k and WinNT Servers with no problems. Your mileage may vary, though.

I WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE THAT MAY BE CAUSED BY THIS. IF YOU ARE UNSURE WHAT YOU ARE DOING, AND/OR DON'T TRUST WHAT THIS INSTALLER DOES, THEN DON'T USE THIS. PERIOD. IF YOU FUDGE YOUR SYSTEM UP, I CAN'T HELP IT. USE ANOTHER SERVICE INSTALLER INSTEAD.

EDIT: Slight edit in the readme, so I updated the ZIP file.

You are more than welcome. :) I'm so glad to see you got it working on the first try. :)

Yes, that SrvAny utility can be tricky. I've used it so many times for other clients I've had to become proficient with it. ;)
