View Full Version : Running TS Server from WebHost Server

I do believe that I am posting in the right area... not sure though :(
Here's what I got:
The server program downloaded
Installed on local machine; copied into webhost's folder.
Local machine: Win XP (ts client works wonderful, thanks guys!)
WebHost: Webmasters.com (http://www.webmasters.com)
Website: CrazyDog's World (http://www.crazydogsworld.com)
I *believe* that the webprovider uses either linux or apache server software (really dont know the diffrence).
Now what? I cant even login to the web-thingy for admin login. Of course, I can on local machine, but I dont want to host it here... I want to host it from my website for bandwith reasons; also dynamic IP.
I have been reading this and that in the forums, user manuals, faqs, etc. I have not found anything that -->directly<-- covers my situation. And to be honest *blushes* I am only starting to learn how some of the coding within configuration files work.
Can someone help me out? I have spent aproxmatly five hours searching, and my eyes are starting to hurt!
do you have a shell access to your webspace ?
1) If you only have a ftp access to upload some http files, you can forget it. TS is a application and therefore you need the right to execute it.
2) TS needs ports to which you can connect. Your webhoster must allwo you to connect to this ports (8767 for connection and voice com, 14xxx for webinterface).
I don't know webmasters.com but you need more then only some MB's for a website.
EDITED: ähm, a short look on webmasters.com. this looks more like a webpage service. I have big concernes that you will not be able to let a server running on this webspace.

Ok, I have just upgraded my webprovider service. I have MySQL & all that neat stuff it takes to run a PHP website. So NOW can I host a TS server off my website? Same Wesite address, same Host.

No, sorry. You can't run a server application with a webpage host no matter how much you upgrade your account. They go through considerable effort to prevent their clients from doing this (for security reasons).
What you're looking for is either someone who specializes in these kinds of services (game server hosters should be your best bet) or you need to rent a box at a colo service and run it yourself.
Or, get an DynDNS (or similar) hostname and put it up on your own computer.

If i have the right to use shell access, what should I do? Thanks,

If it is a linux box:
Download the server package on the server.
Do tar -xjvf ts2_server_rc2_201940.tar.bz2
or (if your tar does not know the j option) bzcat ts2_server_rc2_201940.tar.bz2 | tar -xvf -
Read the server documentation that you just extracted with the server.

Sorry, can you brief me the step of the installation on a web hosting company? Thanks,

Sorry, didn't I just do that?
If you are stuck ask an explicit question about the point where you are stuck.

hmmmm, can you confirm whether I am correct on the below steps....
1. download the above mentioned file;
2. upload the file to my www root in the web hosting co I have;
3. do the command you mentioned in the shell access;
that's?
Please help,
Thanks,
@dannywwc:
We (you) haven't come one step further ! Just do what Dummer Sack proposed to you ! That's the way it should work.

Hi, i tried to do what he mentioned in shell access.
After the installing, I tried to login on www.myweb.com:14534 but failure, what's wrong with that?
Thanks,
1) have you started the server (I think it's described in the server manual, if not already done, read it) ?
2) have you access on this port to your space ?

To start the server just change into the direectory yoo just created and type ./server_linux
Then check the newly created server.log file for your admin and superadmin passwords.

You can change the port in the server.ini file to any port you want.
Ports below 1024 may not work because most systems require root permissions to bind to these ports.
This is a problem you have to discuss with your hoster, not here in this forum as we can not help you !
You can change the TS webadmin port but this is NOT the way to the solutions. You have to ask yur hoster which port you can use for such a application and then change the port (if still necessary).
The webadmin port has to be changed in the server.ini. Once the webadmin is accessible, you can change the server port in the webadmin (login as superadmin).
