Hi,

Since multiple people talking at the same time is causing peaks in my server's upload speeds I'd like to see an "Allow only X users to talk at the same time" option, where of course X can be any nr of users. It would be nice (if possible) to mute people trying to speak when allready 3 other people are speaking. Apart from the iritating noise generated by a lot of people shouting at the same time, I could easily host a channel with a lot of people on it without affecting my upload speed to much this way :)

Do you think it's possible to create such an option?

It would be nice to have some ranking system to the "Talkers" too however I know this could make it more complicated as apposed to first come first serve.

And if say only 2 at a time can talk, how do you know you are or are not being heard while in game?

I think there needs to be some audible announcement so that whoever tries to submit gets a sound which tells him that he can't submit at that time...

also there should be a maximum time of transmitting and like 1 sec pause after that so someone else could start talking in this pause... (very important if there are some noobs who set their voice activation level too low).

Another solution which comes to my mind is to use the current channel moderation feature but extend it, lets say to "auto channel moderation", where you can specify a number of users who can have voice at the same time. Whoever starts to transmit gets V-Flag if there's another free slot. After he stops his transmission V-Flag is revoked. Ops, CAs and SAs always can transmit and hereby overrule the automoderation. They get V-Flag whenever starting to transmit and some other user's V-Flag is revoked to create a free slot... Maybe first normal User's, then Op's, then CA's V-Flag is revoked to have some hierachy.
Perhaps also a distinction between manually Voiced people and auto-Voiced people could be included, so the auto moderation just affects its own users and you can manually add others.

oh and I remembered that there was another thread covering this topic and as you can see, my opinion changed...
if there's a Flag indicating that the channel is "AutoModerated" and the users get warned that they can't talk, it's back to the user that he noticed when he gets cut off.
