Hi Bradmanchu
Well, there is actually just the Server and the Client. It doesnt matter where you install them, as long as you do install at least the client somewhere.
The client is the Software you need to connect to someone elses TS-Server. If you want to host a Server yourself, then you (obviously?) need the TS Server.
If I am right there are also some readme files which will help.
Whatever you do... first thing I would suggest is to start the client and do some "loopback" testing, since some of your friends might get really pissed when you start annyoing em for 3 hours with bad sound quality and wrong settings (or maybe that is just me and some bad memories?)

PS: If you are thinking about starting a server you should be aware, that you will need the client too. Start server, connect to your server with a client (using localhost or 127.0.0.1) and look if it works. Ohh.. and dont forget to change the Passwords... but that should all be in some readme.txt or similar file.

sorry, i should have explained a little better. the reason i got teamspeak was so i could use the live voice chat in Tribes 2, an online battle game. i got two reasons why the sound couldn't be heard in the game. the first was that using that feature with a 56k modem is impossible and the other reason was that the engine that Tribes 2 uses is a piece of crap and someone recommended that i use teamspeak with my Tribes 2. so i was wondering if i could just install teamspeak into my Tribes 2 folder somewhere so that it would integrate into the game but i guess (now that i think about it) that was a stupid idea. thanks anyway though.
