Ghosts/No Names??

A game i play has a TS2 server set up and all has been working fine until yesterday. If you log into the server, you can not see your own name???


If you double click on a room to change rooms, you can hear others talk, and you can talk to them as well!

I could see a few others names in different rooms, and when i asked them if anyone else was having this problem they said yes.



Down in the lower left of the TS window it says "Connected as _____" there is no name listed here. Uhhh wth? lolz Im not the owner of the server but i can get in touch with the owner to let him know what to look for.

Guess no one has ever had this problem?

I can log into other servers and see my name fine, so im guessing its a server setting issue, anyone?

exact server-version number (whole string)

and please check whether you have a default channel... (RD)

Hmmm no channel called "default" there is one called "lobby" that everyone logs into at first.

And i dont know exact server -version number, i would have to ask the person runing the server for that wouldnt i?
Only can contact them via email, and so far they havent replied to my email notifying them of this problem. Ill post when i can



EDIT: ahh i see verion now, its 2.0.19.16

every server needs an default channel, so make sure that there's that D Flag behind some channel... if not, set one.

better would be: download the latest server version!

Well like i said im not the owner of the server but i am a SA, but for some reason i can not add a moderated channel or set its atributes to default, nor can i edit any of the channels anymore, maybe this no name prob is effecting that, i dunno *shrugs*

If i ever get in touch with the owner ill have him install the latest version and see if that works.

perhaps you could also do a complete server-reset (which means deleting your server.ini, server.log and server.dbs files while the ts-server is shut down) but you'll lose all user data then...

I can imagine that it could cause problem when updating with a corrupt server.dbs to the current version, because it's untypical that you don't have a default channel.

please check your permissions to see whether you're allowed to "create default" (under channel permissions in your client's permissions overview).

Ok got it all working now, had to type "Lobby" in the default channel box, then logged in fine, could see my name.
Then i went ahead and edited the "Lobby" room settings and made it default (ie checked the default box) i couldnt do that before when i couldnt see my name.... just a fyi for anyone else that has this problem.
