what's your normal ingame "ping" when using your satellite connection?
and are you sure that your provider doesn't block anything?

around 500ms its high but dont matter for a game like shadowbane and im pretty sure nothing is blocked
90 % the connection is blocked:
1) can you ping the IP of your friends server ?
2) you could do port scann to test if the TS server port is open towards you if you can ping the IP.

I also use Direcway and need some advice. I know I have high latency using satellite but I thought I would ask anyway...
I have no problem connecting or hearing other players, but they all say I am very "choppy". Are there specific settings I can change to help with that?
Thanks
Satellite connections have VERY high latency. The only way to use Teamspeak over a satellite connection would be starting the client in debug mode (command line switch -d).
HOWEVER: I highly doubt this will relax the timeout settings far enough for a satellite connection. But you won't know if you don't try.

It does work and does connect. I was just trying to figure out if there are any specific settings in the application that would help with choppy output.

Perhaps the uplink site is gathering packets and sending them all at once. I wonder if marking the packets with the TOS MinimizeDelay value would help? Do you know if any VOIP products work over satellite? Ask your ISP about that. The same settings should also help TS.
Ralf, can you add the TOS MinimizeDelay flag in the next release/version? For Linux, one can do this with iptables (and I do this on my game server), but it's nicer if the app can do it, esp. for Windows.
Meanwhile, we need to get TS to be RFC 1149 compliant (http://www.blug.linux.no/rfc1149/). :D
First off, make sure you are running the most recent version of the client side software for your satellite connection. DW6000 users need not worry about this part. TeamSpeak does work via satellite, however you will experience high lag times. There is nothing you can do about this.
Because of the nature of the satellite network, data takes from 1-2 seconds to reach it's destination and return. 1200ms ping times are not uncommon. By contrast, most cable and DSL are 30-60ms ping, and dialup is common around 200ms.
Satellite servers are, in essence, proxy servers orbiting at 44K miles. They tend to be highly restrictive on what they allow to run across the network. I was able, with minimum effort, to get TeamSpeak to run on my system. I will have to test on older/alternate operating systems via satellite, and will report back when I do. For now, I know that it works reliably on WinXP Pro via DW4000.
