Cstar, We are all useing headphones, no speakers.

Mixer settings? Master volume right (or Playback Control)?

My settings are:

Playback vol. All the Way Up. Same with: Wave/mp3, Cd Auido,

MIDI.

Auxiliary, Microphone & Line-in are at HALF volume.

Everything is UN-muted.

Thanks Cstar, do these settings raise any flags?

Ok im having the exact same problem as he is. I get nothing but extremly loud reverb and echos, even if i dont speak into the mic. Im running win2k with 1GB ram and 1.4 GHz P3 with a Prowler DSP 4.1 saurround card, the actual chipset on the card is a CMI8738/C3DX PCI
Now, bear with me, the CMI8738/C3DX PCI doesnt seem to record sound AT ALL into TS, while if i remove it and go to the build in AC 97 on the board I get the horrible Echo/reverb effects, but if i scream loud enough into it i can kinda hear myself....echo..reverbed etc. I have latest drivers for both cards, but i REALLY need to get atleast one working soon, so any help would be much appreciated.
I have no idea whats going on here, i have checked all settings and still nothing seems to work for me....
HELP

It's making my investment of about 90.00 (6 pair) worthless.

Another bummer is nobody acts as a uinit in combat- they talk like there on the phone to a friend...... :(

I think I wasted my money???

swan: check your recorder settings not just your playback. Microphone should be only one selected and it probably needs to be boosted too (Recorder advanced mic button)

ShadowWulf : same answer as swan but with an added thing to check that the right devices are selected in TS (settings, options, devices)

I wish echo was GONE! Don't reply.

If you have echo problems, you need to adjust your TS settings.

please describe how to change the TS settings so the echo/reverb will stop as they all have described above. i've tried all different combos of settings. what's the magic? thanks!

wow thats a jump in this thread.... I am so glad you are availing yourself of the wisdom contained in this forum. I will endevour too be concise but If anyone has any suggestions that I have missed Please feel free to expound with my blessing.

1) when posting such a question for help, please include more specific information so that assumptions will not be a waste of your time or the person answering.
2) update all firmware updates ( BIOS updates should be handled by a professional)
3) update all hardware driver updates ( ie: sound card drivers )
4) update all operating system updates ( ie: security patches )
5) update all direct hardware access operants ( ie: DirectX )
6) update to the most recent TeamSpeak version available.
7) set TeamSpeaks output to use the sound device that outputs to headphones only.
8) set TeamSpeaks input to use the same device as it uses for output for your microphone input.
9) avoid using speakers unless you have the fortitude to setup and maintain it.

Once you have done these things and if you still have a problem then you should start playing around with TS settings. TS2 is okay at trying to accept a poor system grounding but only so much compensation is available.

A tool is only as good as its user. Upgrading yourself is the biggest computer upgrade you can do. A life of learning??? hey why not.... ;)

To be Continued

[release statement: I know I know this is basic and somewhat overkill, but if you have a problem, in most cases this will provide for a good basis in which to solve it.]

Sir - you are very kind to list all the things to do first. I have done all of these. I have a two new Dell Inspiron XPS using Sigma Tel Audio card (factory installed default). Have completely updated all drivers, os updates, etc., as you have mentioned in your very complete note. I have also tried all TS setting combinations. The symptoms remain, whether with built-in mic, boom mic, speakers, headset speakers, etc. Pressing the key (i have it set that way) begins an immediate reverb/static -y/echo in local mode, and other users complain about poor quality, feedback and static in connected mode. I have 4Mbs to the Internet and it's working fine. As shown in the attached diagrams, I have no mic selection in playback. Regular test of the mic with Windows recorder works fine - no feedback or echo My humblest apologies if i am abusing this forum, but this is a stubborn problem that i would like to solve for my two kids.

Ah, looks like the old misconception: What you see is not what is in use, but which sliders are displayed when you click ok.

dpowles

My impression is that it's both - if it isn't there to display the slider, then I can't mute it, since I can't get at it for control. Is there a way to do that?

Brain

Well, it's the way the Windoze volume control works.
You select which group of sliders to display (playback or record sliders) and of those available you can put together the list you want to see. After pressing OK you can manipulate the sliders you chose.

If the volume control reads "Play Control" in the window title you see the sliders for playback. It is also obvious by the names of the checkboxes at the bottom of the window, they read "mute". That's where you mute inputs you don't want to have on your speakers/headphones.

If the volume control reads "Recording Control" in the window title you see the sliders for recording. It is also obvious by the names of the checkboxes at the bottom of the window, they read "select". That's where you select your recording source.

Did that help?

Thanks for your kind explanation. My only problem is that for some strange reason, I don't have mic available under playback as something I can mute. This was one of the suggestions given to me as a way to solve the echo/reverb/static problem I have with TS on the Inspiron XPS. I guess that means that the Sigma Tel Audio drivers don't have that option - but for the life of me, I have tried all the other things to try offered on this forum. I had hoped to find a Dell Inspiron XPS user.

This slider seems to be missing indeed. Have you tried getting new drivers?

Cstar_maxim
16-01-2005, 19:22
It does look like "Sigma Tel Audio card" drivers are a bit ...weak just from the picture, and in those pictures, selecting them there allows you to see and control them. Some "programs" will modify settings of sliders you can not see.
Specially older programs not adept with DirectX

Yes, I guess they are weak - but they're the hand I'm dealt. Any suggestions? Many thanks!!

I hope this helps. I had a problem with the reverb as well, and just messing around with it and changing to these settings, I was able to get it to go away. I'm doing this on a Laptop, with no fancy sound card, just what came in the box. I think the key is having only the 'Microphone' Select box checked in the 'Recording Control' Control Panel. Not to insult anyone's intelligence, but just in case, to switch between the two views (top and bottom in my picture), first open the Volume Control Panel, select Options->Properties, then select the Playback or Recording Radio Button (in the 'Adjust Volume for' area). Also, I would suggest having the 'Advanced Controls' display by making sure you have a check mark next to 'Advanced Controls' in the Options Menu. I cannot guarantee these settings will work, as I only just now fixed my own problem and have only tested it with the Local Test Mode in Teamspeak RC2. But so far, so good.

mwmartin - thanks for taking the time to share your settings. you have a lot more options under playback than my drivers give me. i've tried the closest variations I can get to your settings and no joy. i reported this problem in an email to Dell and their immediate reaction was to send me a new sound card package (it's actually part of the fan assembly, if you can believe it) - so I will install and see what happens when i get it. thanks again!

Cstar_maxim

fan assembly? hhhmmm does your "reverb" sound as if you are talking through a fan ;) just kidding.

New hardware could help allot or it could be just sidestepping the problem. I hope it works for you and I hope anyone else out there that has the same sound card as you do(did) can afford the same solution.

Actually,

The Dell system was under warranty, so it was free.
