View Full Version : need urgent help!
i think this is a common problem, but i cant join my own server.
i have 2 computers at home, which are connected to each other.
i eastablished a server in my dad's pc, and when i tried to join it from his pc, it worked. however, when i tried to connect it from my own pc, it faild.
it wrote:
No reply from server
maybe the server is offline or maybe teamspeak is not running on it.
i KNOW the server is ONLINE, but i wanna know what does it mean "teamspeak is not running on it"?
i used all the IP addresses i could, on my father's pc 2 out of 3 are working. on my pc, no one is working.
can u please tell me how can connect my server from my own pc, how to find the right IP address to use, and which IP address my friends need to use to connect it, too?
i read the manuals, but i couldnt find any answer, so please, if u can, tell me all i need to know, here, using simple english plz.
thank you very much.
basically: inside LAN use ONLY LAN IP's
"no replay from server or server is not running on it"
it means EXACTYL what it say. The server does not respond or there is no server running on it. As you can connect from the same PC the server is running to it, it's seems to run so only option "no replay from server" is valid for you.
=> somethin is bloking the connection
- can you ping the LAN IP o your dad's pc ?
- any firewall running e.g. WinXP default's one ?
there is a firewall (norton internet security), which i disabled and logged off from. it still doesnt work. we both use windows 98. no xp in our home.
what do u mean "can you ping the LAN IP o your dad's pc ?"?
how do i do it? if u mean u want to know my dad's ping when he is connected to the server, its 71.
if u dont, then i dont understand. plz explain to me how to do it.
so...if there is no reply...how do i make it to HAVE a reply?
thanks again :)

to set up a server you'll need basic knowledge about computers and networking.
your lan-ip is normally looking something like 192.168.0.1-255, but you can set your lan-ip to bascially every ip you want, so we can't tell you which ip of your dad's computer is your lan-ip... (at least we can't, if you don't list them).
I think norton internet security works in a similar way to the True Vector Monitor of the ZoneAlarm-Firewall. Even if you close down the firewall it's possible that your computer still is protected.
So you could try to open port 8767 for the server or you could try to deinstall that firewall completely. Again, you'll need basic knowledge about a firewall if you want to use one, else it's useless and you'll experience problems with it, especially if you can't set it up correctly.
you can ping any computer you want to, you just have to know its ip... in windows you can do this via the command-line tool... "ping Your-Dad's-IP" it will send 4 packets to your dad, if they timeout, the computer doesn't respond (because the ping gets blocked), else you'll get a runtime in milliseconds which is the ping.

i understand.
i dont think ill deinstall my firewall, i wont take any chances.
however, where is that "command-line tool"? i couldnt find it..because i dont know where is it.
where is it then?
I'll be honest:
If you do not understand about ping comamnd and network either. You'll be HOPLESS lost with setting up a server behind a firewall. I totaly agree withSatanClaus, you def. need knowledge about basics (the command line IS basic).
I suggest you're going to ask someone who can help you directly at the PC. Doing this ALL through the Forum is realy not what this forum should be.
I'm sorry you tell you that.
The cmd line can be access through:
Start - Execute (or what it's called in english) - and then typ in the field "cmd" (without the ") and hit enter
then you can ping an IP addess with:
ping "IP"
but again, if this is too high for you and you do not understand it. Setting upt the firewall will be much too high for you !
