Every time I try to record sound with my mic, the mic activity level goes up by very little. Then, when I play back what I've recorder, all I can hear is very quiet static. I know the sound card and mic are working, since it records perfectly on Linux, which I have on the same pc. Also, recording seemed to work fine on WinME before I've installed WinXP. I've already gone through most troubleshooting steps, I have the latest drivers from the Via website, the volume is adjusted to the max, and the mic is selected as the input device. Please help me with this issue.

My PC:
AMD Duron 700 Mhz
STI 1.0 motherboard
VIA Technologies VT8363/5 KT133/KM133 system controller
448 Mb SDRAM
ATI Radeon 9000 Pro
Windows XP Professional
VIA AC'97 WDM
ComboAudio v3.70b audio drivers

Download the newest driver from realtek.com.tw. That worked for me to get the mic working with sound recorder, however I could never solve the problem of others hearing an echo with this card even with the new driver. I ended up putting another cheap sound card in just to plug my mic into and using my AC97 card to play to headphones and speakers. There are several posts about AC97 SC being a problem.
