View Full Version : Need a little help please...
Hi guys,
My friend recently told me about TS so I downloaded it. Now I play certain games with my family, and would like to use my OWN server when we play.
I have a Linksys router, and followed directions on the readme, and searched the fourms, but still no luck...
Anyway here's my problem.
I set everything up, and fowarded 8767~8767 UDP.
When I right click the TS Server Icon on the Systray, and go to IP's it only shows my LAN IP, not my WAN. I tried to type in my WAN anyway, but still no luck.
Then I seen a message to where if you're inside the LAN, connect via LAN. My question is, is will it work for people OUTSIDE of the LAN? I would try it but everyone's sleeping...it's late over here.
I'm thinking it won't work since it's not showing my WAN address...but who knows.
I also read about using a Static IP. That's something I CAN'T do. This is because my ISP CHANGES our IP's everyonce in a while. I already had a Static IP, but once they changed the IP's, our Net didn't work.
Is using a Static IP he ONLY way TS will work with Linksys? Is it up and running now, even though I only see our LAN IP under IP's?
Thanks for all your help in advance,
Jnick
Hmmm...Anyone...

Clients (besides you and anyone in you LAN) must use your WAN IP. If you have a dynamic IP, you can get a DNS from many places like http://www.dyndns.org/ then the clients can just use the DNS you have.
I'm not sure if it will work or not if your WAN IP is not showing in the system tray; try it and see.
Thanks, but I already have a DNS. Gonna see if it works right now, using WAN with one of my friends...
Nope...Tha didnt work...can anyone help me?
*g*
guys, the WAN IP show up in the system tray is JUST a service TS is offering. As one of the Dev's stated, there is currently a problem with it. But again, it's just a request your server is sending to a TS "master" server. This server is sending back your WAN IP so you do not need to check it in your router menu or else where. As you're using a DNS no problem. This has nothing to do with the ability to connect from the WAN or not.
enjoy TS !
...hmmm but I have DNS though people can't connect to my server using the WAN IP. It says server is offline, or TS isn't running on it.
Can anyone help?
Anyone?
I've been trying non-stop for 3 days. REad the Manual for TS, read the FAQ fourm, read the Linksys Manual.
Can anyone help me!?!
1) are they using the correct DNS / IP and are they usingthe correct port e.g. 'yourDNS.dyndns.org:8767' or 'yourWANIP:8767'
2) Otherwise you didn't do your portforwarding correct (probably there is an issue with your router firmware) the or you have a firewall running.
Concerning the port forwarding, you should probably consult a true router forum to check if there are issues with your router,...
w00t.
I finally got it to show both IP's. LAN and WAN...but still no luck in getting people to connect.
So I tried to put my IP (WAN) in the BounToIP slot in the server.ini.
The only problem is the administration button is grayed out...
I have to wait till my uncles done eating before I can try it. I'm ALMOST there. Any more help would be VERY appreciated.
My problem was...well I don't really know! I called Linksys (didn't help...) and they said my network bridge was the problem. I disabled it...couldn't get online, so had to renable it. After that the WAN IP started showing up! I can't get online with out the network bridge.
So anyone know how to help me with the LAST step?
Thanks!

Binding to your WanIP will not work since your computer has no interface with that IP (Your router has that IP).
Look into this (http://www.teamspeak.org/forums/showthread.php?threadid=7256) thread. He got the same problem like you and has a Linksys router too. He did a firmware upgrade and all worked fine (It seems that the original firmware has a port forwarding problem).
That the WanIP is not showing correctly is a TS problem but has nothing to do with your connection problem. Entering your WanIP manually should work in any case.
::sigh::
There's no hope
I upgraded my firmware to 1.45.6...no luck..
I have Nortons Anti Virus, and Nortons Internet Security, but I disabled them both, and it still didn't work.
I also noticed that in my router options it set to GATEWAY under the DHCP and not ROUTER, though I don't know if that matters.

It seems that you can connect from within your LAN. So I dont think that it is the TS server (Unless you bound it to localhost or something which seems not to be the case).
So I think it is your router config. Double check all parameters in your config. Maybe you missed some global enable for port forwarding.
If that does not help, try to find a router forum. There the competence level for routers is in most cases higher.
Gateway under DHCP just means that this gateway address is distributed to the other computers via DHCP. It schould be the internal address of your router.
Gateway under router is the gateway that your router uses for outgoing traffic. In most setups that sould be empty.
But see what gets me is that I'm not like a "n00b" at port fowarding. I run a Counter-Strike Server, and a mIRC FServe.
I know my Port Fowarding works...that's why I don't think it's a problem with port fowarding.

Well then do the following:
Get Ethereal (http://www.ethereal.com/), have a friend connect to your WanIP from the outside and monitor your network traffic at the TS server from another computer (You will have to connect all with a HUB because a switch will not send the packets to the second computer if you don't do bad tricks).
If you have incoming packets at port 8767 (Or whatever port you configured) it is the TS server or the computer your TS server runs on. If not it is your router.
You can also try to install Ethereal on the same comuter as TS if you have no second computer or a HUB, but if you have no incuming packest, it can be your router or your computers network stack.
But if you have incoming packets, then your router is definitively ok.
PS:
You said that you have no personal firewall active.
Somtimes those things mess with your network even if they are inactive (See last post of this (http://www.teamspeak.org/forums/showthread.php?threadid=7188) thread).
Somtimes the uninstall goes wrong and then your network has strange problems.
So if you had a personal firewall installed or you have an inactive one on your computer you might check this too.
A friend of mine fixed his corrupt uninstall of ZA by reinstalling and uninstalling again. My other friend had to reinstall his system.
Hmmm....Nope only PERSONAL firewall I have is Nortons Internet Security.
And also I don't have a hub :( Only a router.
Is there anyway to start the server then try to ping it or someting of that matter?
Will UPnP Fowarding cause any problems? I didn't foward the ports, but their are some that were fowarded by default.
I know it has to be something minor. I just don't know what...
I installed the server. REad the readme. Logged into the admin control panel.
Fowarded 8767-8767 UDP on MY COMPUTER ONLY. You think I might have to foward it on both addresses? There is one port on mIRC that both computers must have the port open...
Launched the server...
Did I miss anything?
Or maybe you can right briefly what I was SUPPOSED to do to get this to work...
Thanks

Hmm, the Norton Internet security is inactive?
If not check if it is configured to accept incomming udp packets on port 8767.
The default config of it is not to accept it, so you have to add this manually.
Port Forwarding is only necessary on the server side for TS.
The normal procedure that works for many users:
1. Install the server.
2. Disalbe or unistall all Personal Firewalls/configure them to accept incoming connections and udp packets on the server port.
3. Configure the port forwarding at the router to forward udp packets on the server port to the server.
4. Configure all firewalls/packet filters at the router to accept connections and udp packets on the server port.
Hmmm...This is Strange...
I just retried again with Nortons Internet Security OFF.
I CAN'T even connect to the server via LAN IP.
When I installed the server of TS Nortons was on...do you think that could cause a problem?
And where do you want me to check about the udp...Nortons?
Also when I can join my server, if I dont click anything it has info like Welcome message and all that...
The Server IP reads...
192.168.1.100:8767
(192.168.1.100:8767)
I know I connected via lan, but is anyone of those IP's supposed to be the WAN IP?
Thanks again,
Dummer Sack

I really don't know Nortons internet security. It may be the case that it did something to your TS install but I doubt it.
But that you can't connect from your lan with norton off and can connect with norton on is defiatively a bug (Of norton I would say). I just know why I don't trust that personal firewalls.
And I meant that you should check in notron for the udp port.
The IPs are you lan IPs. But it does not matter what the server shows there (As long as it is not something like 127.0.0.1).
If someone from the outside wants to connect you have to give them the WanIP of your router (The port forwarding will translate that to your lan ip/the ip you entered port forwarding).
I personaly would say that the bug lies at norton internet security. It seems that you have a router that is doing NAT. In such an environment a personal firewall will not bring much security benefit.
So would you suggest me to RE-INSTALL TS Server version with NORTONS off?
I won't be allowed to take Nortons off my system since it does protect passwords, and bank accounts. Sometimes I'll access sites and it wont let me in unless the get my password and I don't even know the site...thats why I need that.
So in this situation...what would you suggest?

If you have no possibility to take norton offline, then you mut try to configure the norton personal firewall to accept incomming connections and udp pakets on the server port.
I don't know norton internet security/norton personal firewall in detail so i connot help you there.
Maybe you can only take down the norton personal firewall, which is part of norton internet security.
EDIT:
I found something for you.
Go to Personal Firewall -> Personal Firewall Settings -> Custom Level.
Set all secuity levels to none.
Thanks...
When I changed my firmware I couldn't play ANY online games. My net got so screwed up. Had to call up linksys and let them send me back my 1.42.
So 1.45 isn't very good and I have version 2 of the router.
I'll check it out tomarrow. Kind of late here.
I'll let you know if it worked or not.
Hmm...
Once the firmware got changed and i reinstalled it with Nortons off it worked!
I used it for a total of 3 sessions (2 days)
I went out to dinner tonight and mine and my dads LAN IP's switched...wierd.
Now I'm 100 and he's 101.
And guess what...Server doesn't work. And yes i did change who the fowarding went to. I'm wondering f TS can't work if the LAN IP is 100 because when I had problems before it was at 100 and when it worked It wa at 101.
I reinstalled it 3 times with nortons off...no luck...
