View Full Version : Strange One for you
Hi
I have a strange problem and am hoping someone can help.
My system is as follows
Athlon2000XP
Creative SB live value 4.1 card
Gigabyte M/B
Running a dual boot system Windows 98SE and XP Home
My problem is this when i run TS in XP i have perfect performance, however when i use 98SE i can hear other users on channel, my mic light goes on but noone can hear me. I have updated drivers and tweaked till i am blue in the face but cannot make myself heard whilst running 98SE:mad:
any ideas would be gratefully recieved as i am lost!

settings / sound input/output settings... click on activate local test mode. Do you hear yourself when you talk into the mic?
is it possible that your windows-mixer-settings aren't the same... (mic isn't recording device)?

Are you trying to use the same TS install for both OS's?
Or was TS loaded under both XP and Win98se?
Hate to make you more blue, but do you have the latest drivers loaded in both Win98se and XP? (Dual OS's require almost twice the work to keep up to date)
Hi
Sorry about the subject will think more next time.
Yes using same version on both OSs, downloaded in 98 and am able to access files on that partition from XP. So far as i can see there arent different versions for variants of Windows, am i wrong here?
I checked hardware setup on 98 and discovered some parts of the multimedia files werent installed, did that and tried different settings for recording device and played with the codecs a little and hey presto! i was on with my squad last night:)
One thing tho was periodically i had to drop the connecton to the channel and rejoin as my transmissions werent being heard( i could still hear them) When i d/c and rejoined the channel all was well for about another 30 mins or so and same thing happened twice again, would this be to do with my connection ( a very slow 56k)?
Thank you for your replies gentlemen, you have been most helpful.
This program knocks the sock off RW BC and the rest btw!

What I ment in my post was:
Was TS installed on XP and installed on w98 or were you trying to run TS in w98 from TS that was installed from XP?
Glad its working better.
Sorry to be a pain but i am back to square one again. After getting the thing to work in 98 i tried to use TS again 1 week later and nothing! I can hear other users perfectly my transmit light comes on, i know the mic is working as both the TS and windows test both show it working but noone can hear me! This despite that is all functions perfectly in XP on the same hardware
And yes i have updated all the relavent drivers

What versions of DirectX are you running on each OS?
I am getting the feeling that you should resign yourself to one OS or the other, or atleast be satisfied to do some things in one and not the other. You seem to lack the fortitude required to look after two OS's or the understanding that not all drivers (even for the same product) are the same.
Prove me wrong and reread the TS manual, FAQ, and do forum searches.
TS will work on each OS but with the use of differant drivers the settings within TS will probably be differant.
I am getting the feeling that i did not post this thread to be criticised but to obtain help and or advice.
I am fully aware that different drivers are required for different OSs and understand that for optimal performance effort is required. If you care to read my original post you will see that I already tried different drivers in the problem OS and have attempted a variety of settings both with the TS software,my Windows configuration and my own hardware.
I use DirectX 8.1 on both OSs,and this gives satisfactory performance both in Audio and Graphics applications otherwise.
What I fail to understand(and if this makes me a lesser being you have my apologies) is why a program should work and a few days later having changed NOTHING this should not be the case, hence my post.
If it doesnt work it doesnt work, but it will have nothing to do with my lack of effort or as you put it fortitude.
Thank you

Well if you have read the manual, read the FAQ's, searched the forum diligently. Then feel free to post on the forum using the forum rules. Remember we are only going to be as good as the information you give us.
I need to know:
MotherBoard make, model, BIOS date, driver dates (specially USB)
SoundCard make, model, driver version
VideoCard make, model, driver version
Win98se - patch levels loaded
WinXP - patch levels loaded
DirectX - version and if you have turned on the functions with DXDIAG for each OS
TSClient version loaded in WinXP and directory loaded too and a complete listing of all settings in TS
TSClient version loaded in Win98se and directory loaded too and a complete listing of all settings in TS
TS will have to be loaded twice, once in each OS to differant Directories in order to retain there settings for each OS/driver combination.
This level of help I ussually charge for and I am ussually on sight when I do it. Maybe you should wait untill final release comes out I would hate to see you go to all this work and find you have to redo it at every version here till then.

Thank you all for your replies and advice
I am happy to say that I now have TS up and runnning reliably in Win98SE.
After removing and reinstalling the program in both OSs and taking time to make sure the relevant drivers for each OS were in place I was still encountering the same problem. But i quickly identified the cause of the problem. My sound card has some accompanying software besides the drivers to control and configure its settings. The 98 and XP versions of this software offered fairly different interfaces and there was a setting in the 98 version for recording which was "hidden away", once activated the program is running beautifully.
Sometimes the simplest solutions work best, a lesson has been learned
Thank you again for your help.
