View Full Version : Causing echos and can't be heard

OS: WinXP Pro
Soundcard: Audigy 2 with 5.12.1.383 drivers
When I log on to a ts2 server, I immediately cause massive echos to everyone in the channel. This happens whether or not I have a mic plugged in. I don't hear any echos at all on my end, but oddly enough, I can hear them all perfectly clearly (as they're complaining about the crazy echos).
I tried installing Ventrilo, just to see if it was a ts2 specific issue, but it happened there as well, so I'm assuming it's a soundcard issue or something in Windows.
Anyone experience this same thing and have a suggestion for how to fix it?
Thanks in advance
take the time to wander to the FAQ section, there is an entry on echos...

Hi, thanks for replying. I did look at the faq prior to posting and saw the section on echos, but couldn't reply there (of course) and I have no idea where to find this:
From windows users I have often heard there is a checkbox in one of the recording menus called "what you hear", or "stereomix". If you uncheck this, the driver-echo should be gone. As windows is *insert*curse*, there doesnt seem to be a way to change this on all machines - it depends on your driver/OS combination, you just have to search around.
Anyone have an idea where I'd begin to look for "recording menus" or "what you hear" or "stereomix" etc.?? A quick step-by-step on where to find any of this in WinXP Pro would be *incredibly* appreciated.
I looked under the device driver section for my sound card, but couldn't find anything like that, and tried poking around elsewhere, but really have no idea where to find this stuff.
Thanks again.
well,
i guess it depends on you Operating System AND your Driver, so its hard to tell you where to find it (if Id have known a way I would have writen it into that FAQ thread :o) )...

Okay, I found the box that was mentioned in the FAQ.
I went to "Sounds and Audio devices" in the Control Panel, then clicked on Audio > Voice Volume > Recording control > Advanced and found the boxes that included "What U Hear".
Unfortunately, the box was *already* unchecked, so that apparently isn't the problem.
Oddly enough, when I switch ts2 to "Press to Talk" it no longer causes the echos. However, since it does it whether I have a mic plugged in or not, I'm not sure what to make of it.
Anyone have any ideas?

are you using speakers or headphones?
Mics are not selective on what they send out, its up to you to only provide to the mic what you want to transmit.
