View Full Version : ping out
Is there anyone else having problems with people timing out and then being disconnected from the server. It only takes a couple of minutes for this to happen to one of my users. Any known reason for this and a fix???
Happens usually with firewalls like my LinkSys router. You must forward the ports TCP: 8767, and UDP:8768 to your local IP address (10.x.x.x, 192.168.x.x). If that doesn't work, see if you can set the local IP address to a DMZ.
Remember to forward your port TCP:14534 to the local IP address of your TS server if you want to be able to change web settings from a foriegn host.
EDIT: ports 8765-8766 were for TS 1.5. The ports for TS2 are TCP: 8767, UDP 8768. I believe that this was designed to allow you to run an older TS server along with the new one.
TS2 seems to be using port 8767 for udp. I'm not sure if it's using 8768 for tcp, but I opened it also.
I have noticed players timing out on my server as well. It seems to affect the dial-up players the most. Broadband/DSL players remain logged in okay for hours.
Perhaps its some cryptic setting in the server.ini file?
Well I do not have the server behind a firewall or a router so the problem is not due to ports. I only have a few players that are doing this time out deal and i know one of them is on cable not sure about the others.

Me neither this is bugging me though too.

Also getting lots of players timing out after only a few minutes. I presume the two are connected? Anyone any ideas why?

There was a known bug on Linksys BEFSR41 Routers and people dropping from comms programs a few months ago. (I had it too) Fix is to update the firmware (worked for me)
If you have this (popular) router, try that.
we to are having this problem no router no fire wall tried different computers different ISP's this is getting annoying soon it will get to be a trouble and then we will be forced to drop it .
