I think it would be great if the Default codec for TS1 was included in TS2 for;

1. Conserving bandwidth
2. It sounds good. It is what myself and my friends have grown accustomed to over the past couple of months and think it sounds better than any of the other ones.

I am not sure if there is a reason why it wasn't put in TS2 but perhaps one of the programmers can reply and give me some insight on this.

Secondly, a Virtual Talker/Firetalk type option where a moderator of a channel can mute a user in that room. It helps a lot more than you would think. If some aliaser comes in causing ruckus you can easily mute them, or if someone leaves their mic unmute while away from keyboard you can mute them, it would help GREATLY and think its quite possible.

I do not see anything difficult about these requests. If there is something I missed I would appriceiate a response from Ralf or someone.

I also should add that I am impressed greatly with how far you have come from TS1->TS2, the options are incredible, but I was really looking forward to seeing the requests I just made in there.

Thanks again for your consideration.

I agree 100%. At least 10-20 times a day some person will come in with a screwed up mic and cause all sorts of unwanted static. This is a hassle when people are trying to scrim and chat.

Also I agree that the TS1 codec is very very clear and works very well for most people I know of.

muting players is still possible.
Mark "Moderated" when you create a channel or edit it.
Then you can Voice and DeVoice Players, if you are ChannelAdmin or ServerAdmin. I tried it and it works greatly. Only 1 disadvantage: you can't bind that function to a key. I hope this will be added to next TS-version (hope it come soon :) ).

Maybe they should add a 1k or 2k codex in it for 56k users.

1 or 2 kbit ??

closest is 2.4kbit lpc and that sounds BAAAAAAAAAD. Makes you sound like a 70s robot

It may sound bad, but everyone has the luxury of high speed connections. At least would give an option to 56k users.

Heh, modem users must use 5.x kbits celp codecs 5 kbits = 640 bytes/sec bandwidth. 56k modem users have 56 kbits (6000 bytes/sec) bandwidth ;)

Thus 5.x kbits celp codecs use 1/10 of 56k modem bandwidth,
16kbits gsm codec use 1/3 of 56k modem bandwidth. Therefore dont need use less bandwidth codecs.

Yeah,
And consider the fact that no 56k user has thier full bandwith. Anywhere from 33k to 52k.
And as you know alot of these games even a minor reduction of bandwith = lag.
Face it for those of us with high speed who cares, but the majority of poeple still use dialups.

Thoughts like that will kill a software.

I will agree, the default codec for TS 1.5 is much better than TS2.

I love the new interface, but the rough sound of TS 2 has put us off. We plan to stay with 1.5 at this point.

I thought that TS1.5 codec is exactly the same as CELP5.2 windows, atleast it takes same bandwidth (it was told that TS1.5 takes 600bytes/s for each user ~ 5.2kbps).
Maybe you are having problems with voice levels. With my setup CELP5.1 sounds better that CELP5.2 windows (and better than TS1.5).

Yep. The only difference is the packets/second it uses (a little bit more to reduce latency)

Over here on my pc the order of codec quality is (good-bad):
Gsm, WindowsCelp52, Celp

I found the same, GSM codecs have more bass and a tighter sound (at the expense of a little bandwidth). GSM 16.4 is my default channel and CELP Windows 5.1 is my backup channel (incase we get plagued by lag in game).

Get a m8 to play some music through his TS2, and switch codecs, thats the best way to see the change in quality.
