I use a key binding to "Whisper to channel family" to talk to all people in the parent channel and sub channels. This works whether I'm in the parent channel or sub channel.
However, when I'm in a parent channel without sub channels, like the default channel, this doesn't function. I have to use the "push to talk" switch here to talk. The famliy key doesn't work.
As I'm used to use the family key to talk to everybody and the ptt switch to talk to my sub-channel, it's confusing to have to use the family key to talk to everybody when there are no sub channels.
Therefore, I suggest to change the function of "whisper to family channel" to talk to everybody in a parent channel without sub channels as well.
