Been reading the threads... and can't find a specific answer
I know that there are an infinate amount of network configs and its hard for you guys that know this stuff to help, so please bare with me... Im not completely inexperienced in networking, but I probably know just enough to really mess things up...heh... here's my problem... ps..forgive me if this has already been answered a million times.. heh
I have cable modem hooked directly into the router (netgear rp614) which from there I have two computers plugged into the router...
On one comp, I have the TS server client running, and the client on other. The server client runs fine and I can even see the server name appear in the weblist when I run the client on other comp...when I try to connect, of course it server may not be running ts, not responding...
On the comp with the ts server client running, I log onto the router and forward port 8767, etc... one thing i notice that's strange is that the ip address it makes me put in, is the lan ip (192.168.0.3)... when i try to change it, (to the wan ip, which i get from going to www.whatismyipaddress.com), it gives an error saying that this address needs to be the subnet mask ip...or something along those lines, and defaults the same ip...192.168.0.3...
Here's where Im stuck... not sure, If i need to get an static ip address for this to work or not... so I test everything by removing the router...
what I mean by that, Is i removed the router, plugged one computer directly into the cable modem...and set up a server on that comp and ran the client on that comp and it worked...other people were able to connect and we all talked fine...
So, now... I dont know where to go from here... after I plug the router back in and re-hook everything up... I get the same error... nothing works... I even d/l'd the latest firmware for the router..and still no luck...
Could this mean this particular router dont work with this type of deal? netgear rp614 is the router...
ok...if anyone could help...and if you need any more information... ill respond
Running windows Xp on one computer (Amd 2000xp), and Windows 2k (P3,733)...
Appreciate any input
