Currently, the TS client 'Channels, Send Text Message' window closes after you click OK (message is sent). Could that dialog be extended to include a 'Send' option where the dialog box stays open (e.g in readiness for sending another message). Perhaps with a Quit option to close the dialog once finished with.
This would enable participants to enjoy an Instant Messaging chat type feature without having to repeatedly call up 'Channel, Sent Text Message'.
Another suggestion is for a Ring/Alert option. Under Linux at least, there is a Beep program which sounds the PC speaker even if your headphones are plugged in (beep is GPL'd). Tones can be strung together e.g. to create an alert type tone. If users within a channel could 'Ring' a participant who may be away from their PC at that time, effectively inviting them to come online, then combined with the above text messaging addition, it would appear to me that you could have very similar capabilities to that of Instant Messaging programs.
Groups could log into the same TS server/channel, see when each other was online, IM between each other, voice chat individually or as a team, and call each other. Combined with TS's Windows/Linux interoperation it occurs to me that with a couple of relatively minor enhancements, TS could be leveraged quite significantly.
I am aware that Linux/Windows users can already exchange IM using the likes of Gaim/MSN for text and Liphone/MSN for voice, however the interoperation and setup of these is not that simple for novice users. TS has a definate advantage in its interworking. Later enhancements might perhaps include SIP gateway access so that TS channels could be accessed from standard phone lines or make outgoing calls to conference in a phone line.
As a single parent of two young children who has recently been made redundant following an extensive period in telecoms/computing, I would be more than willing to aid the TS project to develop such enhancements if so desired.
