Server on the server

Does the server app need to be installed on the same machine that the game is served on? Or could I have a game server and a teamspeak server on seperate machines?

teamspeak has no relation to your games. You can use teamspeak while brushing your teath or while surfing the web, or while gaming.
So, of course you can join any teamspeak server while gaming on any gameserver.
