View Full Version : Connection timed out
Hi i am a new user of teamspeak. I am now a ex roger wilco user! Thank you for the great program.
I never had any problems on the client side. But recently i have made a clan and i decided to host a server for our clan. My computer is runing on windows XP Pro build 2600 SP1. Teamspeak version is 2.0.19.40 I am behind a router Linksys NRO41. DHCP server is enable and the starting IP is 192.168.1.1 is it ok? My problem is players see my server in the web server list but when they connect they get disconected after 2 or 3 seconds! I have foward the port for teamspeak thinking it would solve the problem but no. I have enable DMZ Host but still it didn't solve anything. Then i have notice that when i right click on the system tray icon and go to your ip's it says 192.168.1.102 When players browse the server list the ip for my server is 24.203.208.212:8767. Could this be my problem? I can join my server from the host computer when i enter has server address 192.168.1.102 But when i try to join the server from the server list i enter and i get disconnected after 2 or 3 seconds. Teamspeak is awsome and i don't want to go back to roger wilco. Please help me.
I went to DynDNS.org to get a host name for my 192.168.1.102 ip. It is matrixmafia.game-server.cc. I don't know where or how to set it up so players can join my TS server using this address. Any help would be really apreciated.:)
If you need more info tell me what you want and i will tell you. I can also post screenshots to make sure i have setup everything the right way. I desperately want my own teamspeak server plz help!:( :(
Sorry for my english i am a from quebec and my primary language is french.
Thank you for everything and merry christmas and happy new year to all teamspeak users!:)
Oops i just noticed that i wasn't in the support server section... sorry my mistake. Move my post to the right section if it bothers anyone. Its my first post and i was so enthusiast about this forum i forgot where i was!:)

1. It would have been easier to reply to your own post with something like "I still haven't got it to work" than to make a second post with a rude sounding topic/post.
2. If you have your ports for TS going to your computer that the server is on all you need to do is put the URL in the server address window with the port after it.
URL:8767
My post wasn't rude. How can you tell somebody that they have overlook your thread? You can by saying you have overlook my thread. I wans't supposed to have the thread saying that. I was supposed to say it in a reply but i hit the new thread button. I didn't want to make a empty post because that would have been big time spam!
Thanks k9trooper for your help. My problem is poeple don't stay connected to my server. What you told me to do doesn't work for some reason. Is it supposed to make poeple stay connected to my server? In my post i said "when they connect they get disconected after 2 or 3 seconds!" Thanks anyway.

Was the part I was answering. What do you have for an ISP? It is possible that they(your ISP) will not allow that kind of traffic from a home account. You are behind a router with a firewall make sure the firewall for Windows XP is off. Also disable your virus software and see if that helps.
More on the DynDNS part. I found that www.no-ip.com worked better. Go there register (it's free) and DL its NoIP-DUC that will run in the background so if your IP changes it will route it to the proper IP. Then do this
matrixmafia.servergame.com:8767 and it should work.
I tried it again with both IP and it didn't work.:( I had help on on this and other forum and i have follow everything they said and still it doesn't work. I think the firmware thing could be my problem now. Is the firmware some kind of driver for my router? Maybe i need some kind of update. Thank you again K9 for your help. I love teamspeak so much i don't want to go without it. I was really happy to see that you are trying to help. I am going in circle now. I think i have to update that firmware thing. My last resort. If somebody has hint/tips on firmware feel free to post here.
OK, it's listed in numerous other threads but here's a couple of things to look at;
First of all make sure that on your Linksys port UDP 8767 is redirected to the internal IP of the machine you're using for TS
Secondly, if it's on DHCP, forget that and give the machine a fixed IP cause lease renewal can create havoc
Thirdly , I've had exactly the same problem using a Sitecom router, but it's gone now since I swapped it for a Linksys
Last but not least, if you connect from inside your LAN use the internal IP address, the 192.168.xxx.xxx one
If people are trying to connect from outside, let them use the IP issued to you by your ISP
I have done exactly what you said and its not working. That is why i think my problem is firmware.
Omg... i love you pim! Well pim i didn't do one thing that you said... well partially... I had give the ip for my comp but forget to turn DHCP off in my router settings. Now i had my first client in my server and he didn't got disconnected. I can't beleive it. I had lost lots of hour surfing and playing with settings. Now its all over thanks to you. The good news is i have learn lots of things about routers, IPs and networking. Problems are a pain in the @rse but they make you learn for sure! Thank you again and thanks too K9 too. Your help was really apreciated.

As others and myself have said, this is a voice chat program forum and not network support. Many of the problems here are network related as was Cylink's--glad you have it sorted now.
This particular problem is known for any type of server. People come here and think it will take 2 seconds to make a server, but in reality, some of those people want their own server, but don't even know where to start (ie download the server edition, install it, run it), much less know ANYTHING about networking. ... "just forward UDP port 8767!", "what is port forwarding?" Another thing, most people wanting their own server and trying to set it up can not legally run it through their ISP. Then the problem always arises that once 20 people join the 128kbps upload TS server, nobody can understand what anybody says.
Running servers (any) require some sort of networking knowledge.
True, many people (including me) can setup their own TS server in 2 seconds (figuratively), but we have a better grasp on networking as a foundation.
Hint: for those wishing to learn more about networking/ISP's head over to Broadband Reports (http://www.dslreports.com/), http://www.homenethelp.com/, or http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/index.php .
Although Zero-Point is more than right about the networking part I am very glad that you've got it working now, happy for you.
As for the networking-part, as Zero-point indicated, this problem is getting bigger by the day due to the proliferation of broadband and home-networks.
The very basic point is that most of the ISP's only issue you one IP address, either static or dynamic. If you want to rum more than 1 computer, or more services, like FTP, WWW, TS or any other you can think of, it requires a router. The router captures all the traffic sent to your external (ISP issued) address, and will subsequently use either port-forwarding, or NAT (Network address translation) to redirect that traffic to the internal IP address (client) on which you are running a specific service like TS.
Last but not least, there are some very good threads on this, and if you grasp the above it will all start to make sense  Finally, as again Zero-Point indicated, read your ISP's terms and conditions. Some of them specifically ban running any services/servers on your connection
Before comming to this forum i had read my router's manual, setup my own network, i knew what was port fowarding, DMZ host and how it work. To know if i have the right of hosting a server and to know what was all my ip's, i made a phone call to my ISP tech support and that doesn't got me anywhere. The guy on the phone didn't help me at all. All he keep saying was put DHCP on and the router will give you your IP. I am still with this ISP. They have the most crapy tech support i have ever seen but they charge me 59.99 CND by month for a 4Mbps connection with no bandwidth limit! But then i remembered to click on RUN, CMD, IPCONFIG /ALL. My problem was so small i still can't beleive it. I forgot to ticked off the "DHCP enable" thing in my router settings. How small is that! All i needed was in my router's manual. But the real problem was sitting in front of the monitor! TS is not 100% proof of the small errors that you made. I just forgot this one little thing that made all the difference. Before setting up your TS server you should read you router's manual and you should know the things i talk about in this post.
(i can set it up in 2 sec too but not if i forget this little thing)
Thanks again and keep up the good work!

glad you got it working now
I'm sure your ISP's tech support wasn't as bad as my parents comcast/attbi/whatevertheycallitthesedays :/
