View Full Version : How to start server?
ok im a linux noob i admit. i had a buddy setup a basic redhat server in conole to on a p3 450 i had lying around so i could host a ts server for my clan. been running now since the last update without crashing. :) but its been so long since it crashed that i cant remember where i put my notes on how to start it, and my budy aint around anymore. i know username and password and can log in, and i type "cd tss2_rc2" and change directories, then im typing "./tss.minimal_startscript start" to start and it says permission denied :/ can anyone help a noob out?
login as root and change permissions
you can do that by going to the teamspeak directory, and then type (as root)
bash# chmod 777 *
you should be able to start it as user.
ps: this is not the safest way to start it, but it is the easyest one
edit:
oh it is not your machiene?
then type "ls -l" and see if the files belong to you, if you see your name in front of the name like this:
drwxr-xr-x 1 <your name> <your group> <filesize> <filedate> <file name>
then type:
chmod 700 *
you should be able to start it.
if the user and group is "root" you have to ask the owner of the server to change it for you, or copy a new version of teamspeak to the machiene
i have forgotten root password, when i ls -l i can see that tss2_rc2 is in blue and in my localhost. i cannot change permissions tho, and when i navigate to the directory i cannot start the startscript
is the machiene yours?
then you can use a rootdisk, it's a bootdisk which will boot you into a striped linux version where you can do anything.
do you know the password of the "tss2_rc2" users?
if not
goto this page
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/slackware/slackware-9.0/bootdisks/
and grab rawwrite and bare.i then you can boot into linux
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/slackware/slackware-9.0/rootdisks/
but then you wil need a shell so you can download the rescue.dsk
i will not support you anymore because you have to learn that you should not forget your passwd
you have to mount your original disk and change the root passwd
then you can login as root again.
i will not tell you how to mount a disk, and how to reset the root pwd. that way you will learn linux a bit more, and will not make this mistake again.
