No mic or microphone in TS using onboard 6.1 sound
One of our squad members found this solution for his problem.
If you have not been able to send any sound to other players and you have checked every thing that you can think of BIOS, drivers updates of all kinds, disabling systray apps, etc. and nothing works here is one for you ...
The situation in this case, is Win XP, Asus P4 motherboard with onboard 6.1 sound, lots of memory, lots of hard drive. Tried a USB microphone, didn't work. Matter fact it shut down TS after a few minutes.
His problem was caused by an economic decision of the manufacturer. As mentioned before the onboard sound is capable of supporting 6.1 surround sound. This is a six speaker configuration. The motherboard has front audio output, rear audio output, and microphone input. where do you plug in the last pair of speakers? Well if you look in the manual, it will tell you in order to use a six speaker set up it "borrows" the microphone output and converts it to the next pair of speaker outputs. This will happen by default if you choose the 6.1 sound option. No warning that this will disable the microphone, it just stops working.
The solution was to choose another sound option that would enable the microphone, like 2.1 or 4.1 or headphones. This will restore the microphone to working order.
We have been wrestling with this problem for 2 - 3 days.
We hope that this helps someone else.Last edited by RagingPigeons; 18-01-2004 at 17:00.
