Mic either muted or on all the time.
Running Redhat 9 and using kmix and aumix I have an intel 810 soundcard using the following modules.
i810_audio 27624 1
ac97_codec 14568 0 [i810_audio]
soundcore 6404 2 [i810_audio]
I have tried both voice activated and setting up a key which I prefer, in either case and trying everything I can in kmix and aumix I can simply not get TS to work, the mic is either on all the time or off all the time.
It get's better though:
I can not hear any of the sounds played for example when I connect to a server, other than TS the sound card works fine.
Now that's if i set it to use Default Network which allows me to use it and the game, if I set it to use /dev/dsp the mic and headphones are muted and can not be unmuted.
lsof | grep dsp returns nothing when TS is not running.
I am not using artsd and am running Blackbox.
I have spent the last 24hrs strait trying to find a solution on these forums and searching Google with no succes.

Update -- Now running Alsa
OK, I am now running Alsa. I still have the same issue with the mic being open all the time and if I set it to use /dev/dsp I do get the sounds when connecting now, however if I set it to use /dev/dsp no other program like my game can use the sound then. Regardless the mic is still open all the time if it is not muted.
I have also tried to direct the game to use pcm0p but this simply does not work and the game still has no sound with TS running.Last edited by callihn; 01-02-2004 at 14:54.

It looks like a sound server problem..
Sure you aren't running aRts, or esd, or jack, or something like that?

I can get TS to work now and the mic works too, although there is some humming, probably due to a cheap mic.
I loaded a second sound card a Sound Blaster 16 that uses the Esoniq 1371 chip.
I am still working on getting TS and AA to share sound.
Here is modules.conf:
# ALSA portion
alias char-major-116 snd
alias snd-card-0 snd-ens1371
# module options should go here
# OSS/Free portion
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
# card #1
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss

Still unable to share sound between TS and AA
Hmmm, seems a bit impossible, I even tried using esddsp -m on each program, when I go to start the second I get a no child processes error though.
I have also tried:
echo "name-of-second-program.bin 0 0 direct" > /proc/asound/card0/pcm1p/oss
echo "name-of-second-program.bin 0 0 disable" > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0c/oss
And some variations thereof I found that stuff here:
And is mentioned here:
Also with no success.

Fixed
I was able to solve my issue.
I used this cable:
http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...t%5Fid=42-2497
1' Shielded Stereo Audio Cable
• Chrome-plated plug housing
• 1/8" stereo phone plug to 1/8" stereo phone plug
• 1-foot cable
• For connecting a speaker system, mini stereo or other audio component to your computer's sound card
$3.99
With that cable I was able to connect the speaker out jack from the Intel 810 card /dev/dsp to the line in jack on the SoundBlaster 16 card /dev/dsp1 so AA uses /dev/dsp by default and TS uses /dev/dsp1 and I hear them both through my headset which along with the mic is connected to the SoundBlaster at /dev/dsp1.
