Windows 98 SE on Virtual PC [Windows Version]

    Hi.

I am currently running Windows XP, and the client works fine..

But I also have Microsoft Virtual PC, which runs Windows 98 SE on this same machine. The client doesn not work completely well on that, and that is what I'm asking about. Please be aware that the virtual machine works just like a normal machine, so just pretend it is a different machine alltogether.

What I am trying to do, is set up an internet-based talk radio show. I am using shoutcast to send out my "Wave out mix" to the radio, so anything I hear on my speakers goes to the radio.

Simple enough, I can hear everyone else on this machine, but I can't hear myself, therefore my voice won't reach the radio software.

Here's my plan: Run Teamspeak on XP, and use the USB microphone, and mute the sound from the speakers, aka use a null sound device. This part is all fine. Then, run Teamspeak on Virtual PC (Windows 98 SE) and have it send out the sound from myself and everyone else who connects to the server, which goes out to my Wave Out Mix, going to the radio, echoing everyone on the radio. Brilliant, eh?

But.. The problem is that on Windows 98 SE, the sound is heard from teamspeak for about one minute, then it stops until I close it. Sometimes after I close it, I see an access violation error as well. Also, sometimes it refuses to connect to the server until i restart the server.

This might be related to the fact that there is no actual microphone connected to the 98 SE PC.

Could anyone help me get this to work? I have my brother's PC right next to me, but I can't keep that on all the time (overheating issues..heh) and I can't use it often.

    Thanks for your time.

Simply search for the many "i hear myself echo" threads and just do the opposite of what you're supposed to do (switch on the microphone input for the mixer instead of switching it off).
Holler if you need a screenshot

Oh, and you don't need Teamspeak altogether for that.

    Hi Coolnat2004,

You could also use something like "Virtual Audio Cable" to reroute the inputs and outputs on your system without needing to run a separate instance of Windows.

    Ah, thank you!

Since my microphone is a USB headset, the suggestion of making an echo wouldn't work (I tried already and it just echos through the headset, making massive feedback)

This virtual Audio cable program looks awesome! I found an older demo version which *I think* doesn't have a 3-minutes thing, and I'm using this audio repeater application thats included.

Its sending everything from my microphone to my speakers (And just far enough off so that I don't get feedback) while letting the microphone input go through to teamspeak!

Thank you for your help! I will let you know how my radio talk show project goes!

EDIT: Thanks to that virtual audio cable, I am able to pass the microphone as well as the wave out to "Virtual Audio Cable" which I can use to record from onto the radio! So, basically, I don't have to hear myself echo!

Well, the radio is going good..We've done some unofficial broadcasts (Such as the one recorded at this link )

The radio is now hosted on the same server as the website, which is going well. The teamspeak server isn't up for some reason.. :|

Anyway check ocgn.com for any updates and/or official broadcasts. You might just be interested!
