Web Server Question
Ive read though the manual and the faq, and the only question about a webspace TS server is if its on a free account wich the answer was no.
My question is this. I have a webspace on a server I pay for, It has several mySql data bases, can run some programs off of it. But I dont actually own it and im shure there are other web spaces running off the same server my webspace is on. The requirments for running TS server are just some windows/linx memory/processor requirements. I know the servers my web space are on are Linix servers that meet these requirements.
1) Can I run it as a TS server?
2) What exactly do I need to look for to know if I can run a TS server on it?
3) Is a specific server required to run TS?
4) Is there any hosting that does web space and TS services? (prefer not to have to many seprate accounts)
5) How much bandwith does a TS server use?
6) What questions do I need to ask my WebHoster to figure out if I can run TS and how would I work with them to set it up?
7) what codex's do I need to have installed on the host to run TS?
number 2 and 6 are my big ones. Please if you know or have a link to a post that I didnt find in the search plz post it. The manuals and most of the forum is all about setting up a server on your computer or a server you have sitting next to you off your IP and not running one on the web.
Thanks,
Meloshski

1 2) Ask you server provider if they allow you to run a TS server on this webspace.
3) Funny question to ask in a SERVER Forum. There is a TS server and a TS client, guess whatfore the server is ?
You only have to check wether it's Windwos based or Linux based space.
4) sry, can't answer
5) That is highly depenable on how many user are on the server, which codec is selected and how many user talk in parallel (the server does no voice stream mixing !). I belive there is a bandwith calculation thread in the FAQ. If not, do a search, there are many threads about this question
6) "Can I run the a TS server on the webspace I rent from you" ? Or something similar then this. If they are unsure, tey may have a look at the requirements of TS.
7) There is no special codec installation required. The codec comes with the client beside.
The remote installation does not differ from a local installation. You need some tools to upload the files and a shell access to start/configure the server from remote.

sry, misunderstood you !
The TS server is an application and as such it does not requires script (php, asp,...) support.
Optional:
- MySQL can be used with TS, but it is not required (you can use a MySQL database instead of a SQLite)
- PHP and MySQL if you want to run the separate tool "webposte" (http://www.teamspeak.org/forums/show...&threadid=1466).
However the webspace must allow you to setup and start an application which requires ports for communication (see FAQ or manual for more details). So a shell access is at least required to setup and start the TS server.
The reason why I direct you to your hoster is, that there are different understandings under "webspace". So you and you hoster should best know if you're allowed to use a server application or not.Last edited by guldi; 20-04-2004 at 21:47.
