can't see myself on the server. mic is not working in ts.

    hi, dear ts users

i have a suse 8.1 w/ kde installed on a via epia ve5000. its driver binaries are compiled for exactly that distro. ts client version is 2.0.32.60. no games, just simple mic in & line out for ts.

have arts disabled, ts is able to use /dev/dsp0 (works, at least for sound output). mic capture is enabled, internal gain too. levels are up, i can hear myself in the speakers babbling into the mic.

i installed the client, added the url of one of the publict ts servers and connected. in the default channel i saw icons for several people hanging around, but i saw no icon representing myself. same thing when changing to another channel. when changing back, every user in the channel seemed to be doubled. same again, when changing the channel again. still having no icon myself. changing back again, and the other icons had tripled... and so on...
in the local testmode i can't make the thing get something out of the mic, neither with push to talk nor with voice activation. the green lamp remains dark. though i can hear the messages of the client, when connecting and switching channels (or with leaving or arriving users)

i did work through all threads of that fine board here, which i thought might help, but with no effect on my problem. i installed the client several times, as user and one time as root, tried to run the client as user or as root, no effect.

i still have no clue, what's causing it - maybe the onboard sound? but it works, even in full duplex i can listen to music, and i hear the mic signal. but not in ts.

on another machine with an isa sound card i had no trouble with ts and suse 8.1.

if anyone could give me a hint, i would greatly appretiate it excuse my bad english.

thinking about why nobody replies to your thread? obey the forum rules and answer the questions asked in them...

for now I think this are two issues... one bug that old server-versions had when there was no default channel and one issue that is about the settings of your mixer... (use alsamixer and make sure that there's a "Capture" above the mic and capture sliders.)
