Random inability to hear and/or be heard
I am running a TS server, RC2 (2.0.20.1)
I am running client version 2.0.32.60
I'm pretty sure all of my users are also using that client version
the server is currently on a win2k3 server, but was previously on a win2k server. Connected to a mySQL server.
the TS server had been running well since the first day I installed it, up until about a week ago. Then people started complaining that it was starting to be choppy. The server it was running on is doing some strange things (the win2k server) so i moved the TS server to my win2k3 machine. That appeared to fix most of the choppyness problem, but now i have a really weird problem.
i had all of my rooms set to speex12.3 bit. This has been fine up to this point. When everyone reconnected some people could hear others, some could not. some could hear one person and no one else, and some could be heard but not hear anyone. Example....
I can hear player A, B and C
Player A can hear me
Player B can hear Players B, C and Me
Player C can not hear anyone
Changing rooms appears to change who can hear who and who can not hear who. Changing the codexs didn't appear to help any, but did manage to make some more choppyness go away.
I personally use voice activation so i don't hit any keys to talk and i'm guessing that means i'm not in whisper mode. I had a pair of roommates that could hear me talk out of one computers speakers but not out of the others. we'd switch rooms and the opposite would happen. It really doesn't appear to make any sense to us.
Any help would be appreciated!

Interesting problem.
Off the hand I only have two ideas:
- Some people might be using stone-age clients. But this would not explain why switching channels helps with the who-hears-whom problem
- Maybe some people set upstream/downstream limits. This would explain why changing codecs (to lower bitrate codecs) gets rid of the choppiness, but it doesn't explain why for example player C can't hear anyone at all.
For testing sakes you should ask your friends to remove any limits on upstream/downstream they may have set in the client, perhaps it helps.
I'm just guessing here, never experienced that problem on my server, sorry.

Interesting problem. How many virtual TS server are you running? Are they all affected by this problem or only one/some of them?
