TS on Win SBS 2000 (screenshot added)

We have a server at work that runs Windows 2000 Small Business Server.

I would like to set up TS on it ( I have full admin rights to the server)

My problem is that in the TS server log it states that it cannot find the external IP, needless to say that this gives me the error: TS is not running on server yadayada.... when I try to connect to it from home.

Ive looked through the SBS admin console and cannot find anything that relates to opening ports or port forwarding.

I stuck as far as what I should be looking to change and Im also too worried to try by trial and error as I do NOT want to comprimise the security of our work server. (Nor do I want to get the sack for destoying 10's of thousand man hours of data!)

It would be greatly apprieciated by myself and the clan that I want to give this TS server too, if anyone who is familiar with this kinda thing could offer some help.

Although I consider myself confident in computing and not a n00b this is something I dont want to get wrong.

My thanks in advance for your comments and help.

It should work just fine on SBS2000. TS is a wonderful service, it is fool proof. I am running a test on my SBS2003, I have successfully run the service on XP, Server2000, 98 and now SBS2003. My current TS server is runnig on XP pro. No problems what so ever.

With the SBS2003, all is working fine on my end but I am using a router to make sure port 8767 request are pointed to the correct machine and the port is open and allows access thru my firewall.

I will respond to your post (Now that I have just seen it). Please don't take offence to the way I type my questions. I am not assuming you are a newby, just covering some basics. I am also having a difficult time understanding some of the information.

    Is the service running?

Can you access it from work by using the client?

What is the ip address for the computer hosting the TS server?
Check the bottom right hand corner of the activities window, this is where the clock is located. If you find it, Right click the icon, then hover your mouse over the IP.

    Are 2 IP's showing?
If you only have one IP and it's internal, you will never be able to connect from the outside world that is if your security setup is working correctly.

Listed in the IP's you should have an internal IP and an external IP. Or Just an external IP address. You must have an external IP address for it to work correctly with the outside world.

How many computers are on your network?

Are you sure you that port 8767 is open on your Internet connection Device? If you are connected to the internet and the company is its own ISP, you must have a router setup somehow somewhere. (Unless you are on a Frame relay. Then I believe the router is on thier end.)

Normally, let's say you are running your own website on your company's computer. In your connecting device to the internet (your sbs200 or cable modem or DSL modem or however you are setup) you must tell the device that when someone make a port 80 request (html) to point to port 80 for the website to be seen right? Even if this is setup correctly, you must allow external traffic thru your firewall via port 80.
On that same device you need to make sure that the port 8767 is open and anyone requesting a port 8767 (teamspeak default) gets pointed to the correct machine with the service running. Until this happens, no one can see where the service resides or even knows that the service is availible.

If this is the only device connected you should not have to worry about pointing the port request to the correct machine. However, regardless of the number of computers on the network you must make sure port 8767 is open.
This port should be open and allowed thru the firewall.
If you dont have a firewall setup and the computer is open to the outside world, your first priority should be security of the system.

    Hope this helps.
