"subdomain" like child of a domain?
example: subdomain.mickeysoft.com
or a service like offered by www.dyndns.org ?

yes.. each (sub) domain that has a different ip needs a seperate dns record.
if you want all subdomains to point to 1 ip u need 1 special record for that. Talk to your dns hoster.

ok so just for clarification...
say i want to make the subdomain: voice.mydomain.com so i can use the link: teamspeak://voice.mydomain.com
the ip to the server running the TS is 127.0.0.1 (local i know, just for example)
i need to tell my webhost i need a dns record added to have that voice.mydomain.com subdomain point to 127.0.0.1? i can add dns records but i can't edit the exsisting ones that was created with the sub-domain. i can also make the sub domain forward to another page or site, i tried making it auto-forward to the ip, but that's didn't work.
which one in particular needs to be edited? or do all of them need to go to the ip? or is there one record i can add for it to point there?
any more info would be great.
also do the port #'s need to be added in the dsn or do i just add those to the url when i link it?Last edited by GhostFaced; 27-09-2002 at 05:28.

Um I know this post is EXTREMELY old, but so am I. I host a TS server and I have a subdomain set up. But the FAQ on this issue are vague. When forwarding the hostname, do I include the port # in the IP? Also, exactly what DNS settings do I need to change? I'm Polish so please go easy on me.

Thanks Reedy, it just took a couple of days for the domain to resolve itself. It's working correctly now.
