feature request - teamspeak coexisting with ingame counter-strike speech
I often meet with friends of mine om public counter-strike servers. The problem now is: If we want to communicate with the rest of the players on the server we cannot use teamspeak as it will break the ingame speech support even when using the key-activation ( I assume it's due to the fact that even with directSound only one program can record ). Not using teamspeak means - apart from the crappy sound in CS (compared to TeamSpeak) - that we have to use our phones to agree on a server/team, when to change the server, etc... - annoying.
There are several solutions I see to the problem:
1. Somehow make teamspeak free the microphone for CS when it is not recording itself.
This would of course break voice activation for teamspeak which I see as a major benefit of it.
2. Make modification to CS or teamspeak or both so they can both use the mic.
3. as add-on to 2. make teamspeak "press a key" on speech - so CS can see the keypress and auto-activate speech as well.
4. If modofications in CS are necessary anyways: write a mod for Half-life that replaces the old speech-engine (while staying compatible) and acts as a plugin for teamspeak.
I would like to emphasize that these are only Ideas. I admit that I have no clue about sound programming and the problems that it implies - so please give me feedback if this is possible or merely a dream :-)

The whole problem lies in the soundcard drivers.
For example, my hercules gametheatre xp, allows 2 (or more) programs to record my mic at the same time. However, this is an exception in soundcard-driver land. Most soundcard drivers dont allow this.
That makes it IMPOSSIBLE to let both teamspeak and cs record at the same time.
Small Remark. You can set teamspeak to use push-to-talk in settings->sound i/o settings

I thought so... :-(
But: Isn't it possible to redirect the recorded raw data to CS? On the other hand that would propably require to write a "virtual driver" that CS can use as an input then - propably too much work, and restricted to one OS :-(
The alternative seems to be the mod for CS... I'll try and take a look at the SDK.
I read somewhere that there is a SDK for teamspeak plugins as well - is it freely avalible or do I just remember wrong?
(cant find it ...)
And about the "push-to-talk": as mentioned in my first post I tried this - but it does not work. At least not with my soundblaster live 1024 on win2k and TeamSpeak set to DirectSound.

Push to talk whould work
atleast as long as you have dx 8.1 and havent disabled DI in ts.
Yes i could write a virtual device driver, but that is a bit over the top i think
The SDK is not out yet, but will come.

Well I have TeamSpeak 2.0.22.22 debug from the forum and Direct Input is not disabled. It is set to DirectSound. I have win2k SP3 (german) and the dirextX8.1 update. All this with a soundblaster live 1024. Push to talk is active and set to the "ALT" key.
When Teamspeak is running Counter-strike refuses to recognize the microphone.
When I start the VoiceSetup that comes with counter-strike i get this message:
"Can't create a DirectSound or waveIn device" - but just while teamspeak is running.
The only thing I haven't tried yet is installing the drivers from creative - I use the ones that came with windows. If you think this would help I can try...
Thanks for your help, b.t.w.!
I really appreciate it.
