I posted this on a different place no one answer so here goes

My nephew shutdown my computer and Now I only have my personal IP address I keep clicking update IP no luck

any idea's

last night same nephew logged into a different ts and it knocked my server off. about 2 hours later after rebooting a bunch of times it came back up but he turned off my computer last night and I can not get on we are up to now 4 hours.

not 1 thing has changed... here is a copy of what happened after my nephew joined a different ts and then look how long it took to get it back as you can see i logged off and on but had a bugger of a time getting it back up..BUT IT DID COME UP..until newphew shutdown my computer last night

I want something easier and free...the domain costs $25 a year..i want free because i only have about 10 people that use it.

I guess you didn't understood me. The external IP detection is a service offered by "TS" which is not working all the time. It doesn't work since quite a few weeks on my TS server. But why complain, it's a feature not really required as many other (FREE) service offer this as well (e.g. other webpages which display the WAN IP, dyndns,...)

of course you need an external IP, BUT: NOT TS is giving you this IP. TS tries to detect it (what seems not to work at least currently*) => You get the external IP from your ISP !

Give it to your friends connecting from the WAN. You (within the LAN, should NOT use the WAN IP => use the LAN IP). WAN connecting is however only possible with a port forwarding in your router (if you have a NAT'ed access, e.g. a router).

I believe the whatismyip.com website tells me the same thing that the external Ip said. I am not sure and I will verfiy this in the morning but i do believe that they are the same thing?

The detection of the external IP is a "nice to have" feature offered by TS. This service can not be guaranteed at all the time (there is nothing YOU can do about this !). Anyway this has nothing to do with the main functionality of the server itself !

If you need to know the WAN IP of your TS server, there are lots of sites which offer you the same service e.g.

http://www.whatismyip.com (this gives me the same IP as did my external IP which is down so how do I fix this?)

use Google, and you'll find more of them.


For a "long term solution" (to get rid you your dynamic WAN IP) you could register a free* DNS account at:

www.dyndns.org (ok signed up but inorder to get a DNS # you have to pay get one)

This allows you to use a fix DNS name (e.g. myTSserver.mine.nu) instead of a changing WAN IP. This makes it a lot easier for your friends to connect to your TS server.
Check the documentation at dyndns.org for more infos on how to register and setup your account. Also read this thread which deals with dyn. DNS problems !



WAN or external IP: this is the IP you have when seen from the Internet. Only people not directly connected to your LAN have to use this IP to connect to your TS server.
DO NOT use this IP to connect from within your LAN to your own server (so do not connect via the weblist to your own server in your LAN as this will use your WAN IP) ! (not helpful)

the problem is this. You say that I can use my own IP address but it is the same as the one the external Ip shows me.

the problem is it does not work when my External Ip address is not showing.
I don't need to know what my ip address is I know it because I gave it out to all my friends. The problem I have is this I keep getting can not unable to find external IP address and no one can connect to it when i get this error message.

You keep saying goto the FAQS well I have showed you what you have and it just does not work. there has to be a way for people to connect to my server when external Ip is not showing. I was down 12 hours turning off and on my computer to get it to work. if you think FAQS is the answer tell me where? I'm frustrated because I get the feeling that you think it is a simple answer well i have read at least 2 other posts of people having the same issue..we are not all crazy?

Nothing has changed on my end.

BTW I did keep this running 24/7 because I play an online game that has my people logging into TS all hours of the night. so when I mean that I know the IP that is because I set it up and everyone that tries to connect to me knows the server address and the password.

look I don't want to offend you, I know you get what you pay for but dude it isn't a simple fix.

Does this means you have a modem or do you have a router (=> NAT Access) ?
Is there anything in your server / client log files since you can't connect to the server (apart form the "..not detecting the ext. IP..") ?

if you don't have a lan ip from a router or nat form a pc set up as a nat translater you can use this loopback ip to conect to your self ... 127.0.01 as you ip and it will conect to it's self only if the client and server are same computer !

...The problem I have is this I keep getting can not unable to find external IP address and no one can connect to it when i get this error message.
You keep saying goto the FAQS well I have showed you what you have and it just does not work. there has to be a way for people to connect to my server when external Ip is not showing. I was down 12 hours turning off and on my computer to get it to work. if you think FAQS is the answer tell me where? I'm frustrated because I get the feeling that you think it is a simple answer well i have read at least 2 other posts of people having the same issue..we are not all crazy?

again, the TS team has a service which is running on a server let's call it server A somewhere on this world. When ever you start your TS server, it sends a packet to this server A and asks for an answer. Included in this answer is your WAN IP. If this server A is up and running well, your TS server receives it's answer and can therefore display your external IP.
Unless you have blocked all trafic from and to your server, you will get an answer when ever this server A is running.

What happend if server A is down (which seems to happe from time to time) ? You will not receive an answer from it and your TS server will not display your wan IP. But since you do not get your WAN connection based on that server A, your TS server still starts up and waits for connections, even from the WAN. As said above, unless you have a restrictive firewall, your server is accesible for other players.

Problem. I run my server since a long time and never every were WAN players not able to connect when my WAN IP wasn't displayed.

Has anyone used no-ip to help with using routers? I use it to allow others to connect to my server, however, it only seems to work correctly when TS sees both of my IP's.

it seems to be a codding error in the TS server program or one of its files that makes it have to bind to the IP from that fet. without it it goes to error codes and stops rather than pushing through and allowing the server to be connected to....

u need to chill for one cause not everything is cut and dry.....

and before u start hitting me with how dumb i am get to know who i am and what i do first.....

as for TS server untill the error is found and changed this is something that we will have to get use to.....
