server "forgets"? PW for superadmin?
OK guys i have had some great help from you all and i am after some more.
I run a TS2 server and have registered users and set up PW'd rooms for 2 different gaming clans and everything, everthing run great for everyone except me.
This has happened twice now and i am at a loss to explain or deduce why.
The server seems to have forgotten either my PW or username.
When i try and connect to my own TS2 server using my server registered name i get a
"user name or password invalid" error
and the only way i am then able to join is to click the anonymous user button and join the server in the default room only as i cant see or join the other registered channels on the server
and the problem only seems to effect me --- other registered users are still able to join, and join the registered channels etc.
I have the server running on a win98SE duron 700, and the TS2 server is in the start-up menu to start automatically when the computer is turned on
1) Is there some way i can find what my registered username and password is now (as i dont want to set it up again and get the 40 odd members re-registered if i reinstall again)
2) how did i cause this to happen, and how do i avoid it happening again in the future

OK you can try this:
1. open the file "server.db" with a text editor.
2. you should find something like this:
Users admin LogInName admin
LogInPassWord abcd5
in this case "abcd5" would be your admin password (without quotes of course).
it's always handy to have two or three admin accounts available in case one gets messed up.

the server.db is empty
file size = 0b
why has this happened twice now?

Not sure about the zero size db file, but the log file goes to zero length while the server is running.
Anyway, can you login to the server HTTP admin page using your username/password? If so, then the problem is possibly that you are passing a blank nickname on the connect dialog.
I struggled with that for a while - could only connect anonymously - until I realised I'd cleared both the nickname and the "allow server generated nicknames" option. The resulting error message (bad username/password) is rather misleading.

nup --- i definately have a dbase file that has reset --- further chats with clan mates reveals all has been lost for everyone
i would like to know the cause of this as it has happened twice now
btw i have no server files on my desktop
i have reinstalled and backed up the db file and will do so after every use so that next time when it suddenly decides to delete itself it wont have such a catastrophic effect

Http Login/hackin
Using an old version of TS2-server, the HTTP server page was availible for anyone registred on my server.
In the later versions of TS2 only the Super server admin could login to the HTTP page to make some changes on-line.
But in the erlier version(s), anyone previously registrd on that server could also login to that server on the server- PC by typing the IP along with the port number in his browser screen. By doing that, even "just" a registred user could login and make himself a server admin or a Super Server admin (wich wasnt verry usefull 'couse ssa option was'nt working at that time)
Could it be that someone (of your buddies) might have found that option too and possibly changed your sa/ssa admin passw?
Maybe I'm thinking to simpel, but its just a shot...
