Teamspeak Server Changed its IP without my consent

I have a router and two computers attached to it. I run a Teamspeak server on one and use my other computer to run games. When playing games with friends they and I connect to the server to talk in the games. This has been running well for some time. However when I connected a further computer to my router it all went wrong. The router assisgned the new computer with a different IP and for some reason after disconnecting this computer the TS2 server has now obtained that IP.

The router obviously routes my Internet IP to each individual computer by assigning them a new IP. So behind the router the gaming computer is given the IP 10.0.0.2, and the TS2 server computer is given the IP 10.0.0.1. I have removed the third computer (Know as 10.0.0.3) from my routers DNS Hostname table and disconnected it. For some annoying reason the server creates itself under the IP 10.0.0.3 which is incorrect as there is no computer there with that IP. Now behind the router I can connect to the server by making both computers connect to the 10.0.0.3 IP and it works, but from the interent my friends cannot connect to it because the router is trying to forward it to an IP that does not exist.

This did happen to me in the past and to fix it I had to reinstall the server and spend ages reconfiguring the server, which is a pain. I could change the IP of DNS but I know this will cause more problems than it fixes with other aspects of my network.

Also in the systray when the server is running there is a fuction called Your Ip's which lists the IP I guess of the machine it thinks the server is running on and beneath that it says Update IP's. When I hit the Update IP it does nothing at all in changing the IP. It maybe doing something which could mean that somehow the computer thinks this is the correct IP but I cant see why that would be because it is not the case. There is also no way when logged on the the server as adminsitrator to change the IP settings.

Does anyone know how I can fix this small problem or explain why this happens so unexpectidly after months of correctly working. TeamSpeak really is a great program for multi voice comms, it never fails to work and It's just frustrating that this bug seems to plague my machine.

I guess you're using DHCP because if you didn't there'd be no way of your computer changing it's address without outside interference.

So why would that effect TS2. This is where my networking knowledge lets me down a bit. Why would TS2 suddenly change this.

have you reset your router or lost power ? you should be able to force static ip's in your router . or change the port fowarding to 10.0.0.3 if this number is not changing to keep your ts online

I assume you use DHCP.

Teamspeak isn't changing anything, it's your router that changes IP assignments. Since you probably have a port-forwarding to the machine that runs the Teamspeak server (formerly known as 10.0.0.1) it would now point to a non-existant or different host because the Teamspeak machine was assigned the IP address 10.0.0.3 and DHCP doesn't affect port forwardings.

However that is still speculation since you haven't given any tangible information as to the way you handle the assignment of IP addresses in your local network.

You have fixed my problem by mentioning the word DHCP, I looked into that and have solved it. Basically in the end I had to reset the router due to stupidly removing the DHCP Server Address Pools and Server Leases settings for the different computers. This as you guys would know killed the network and I could not even access the HTML for the router. However, with a simple restore to factory settings, I was able to restore the network. Once I have restored the required NAT settings I think I will save the config to a file as well as in the router so if this happens again I can upload the basic settings instantly.

However, cheers for you hints in helping where to look, teamspeak2 is now back up and running. It is definately a great piece of software and I'm glad I have it back.
