TS-Linksys WRT54G - PCI Wireless Card Linksys WMP45G
Hello All,
Question, on port forwarding, & wireless Teamspeak Setup?
Ok Backgound (Old Hookup, worked Great)
1> ADSL Modem to Switch to WRT54G and to TS Server. On the Router side a wireless laptop and a main computer system LT hooked wireless and the main system hooked to one of the ports with Cat5 wire. This setup worked great because the TS server was not directly threw the router. As I have said this setup worked great for my ISP provides space for 2 Mac address, the TS Server got 1 and the the Router gets it own threw the switch.
1a> Problems with this setup is the TS Server Box need to be close to the switch and the ASDL Modem...
New setup in a wireless setup (New Hookup, does not work)
1> ADSL Modem to Switch to Linksys WRT45G and to main system (CAT5 Wire) own Mac address and IP. On the router side a wireless laptop & a wireless TS Server Box (PCI Wireless Card Linksys WMP45G). Now the TS Server box goes directly threw the router via a wireless connection, and the main box has it own Mac Address & IP threw the ISP. With this setup I can move the TS server Box anywhere in the house even the garage, as long as I get a signal.
1a> Problems the wireless signal does not get threw the modem in WAN setting, if I hook the main box threw (Cat5) to the back of the router and use the routers asigned static ip (LAN), the the main system can connect in a lan setting to the TS Server Box and works great but the minute I try to connect to the WAN outside IP address from either the router lan or from the outside secondary MAC threw the switch, can connect to server.
1b> So basically I can connect to all computer in a LAN setting but not in a Wireless WAN setting...
2> I have done the port triggering and port forwarding required, I have even enabled GZ to the ip on the TS server, again it works in a lan setting but not in a WAN setting, I have read almost every post in this forum, I have read the links to the port forwarding sites, also the linksys manual. (Please do not provide the links to post forwarding, been there and got the T-Shirt).
3> The TS Server in the old setting goes threw all software firewall (NIS2004) and the Windows XP Pro SP2 Wirewall. Is there any special setting internal besides port forwarding & triggering??? Maybe firewall side of the router, but remember it works threw the router via LAN, but agin not threw WAN or outside LAN setup.
Any Suggestions?
If required I can provide JPG Screen shoots of my router internal setting in a reply post. Also I updated to the latest firmware for the Linksys WRT54G, and the latest software & drivers for the Wireless PCI Card.
Thanks All,Basically I would like to run a TS Server Wirelessly threw a linksys router from anywhere in the house, and have a WAN connection that connects and not just a LAN connection.

PS: I have being trying to get this configuration to work for the last few days and I think I have tryed all the setting...Last edited by Shadoe572; 03-07-2005 at 02:44.

OPPS,
Did not setup, the wireless Card to a static IP on each computer of the routers network, this may cause this problem. But even on the port forwarding & triggering I had set the assigned IP address. I will try it with static Ip's and post forward. Seems there are lost of trouble with routing TS, whether wireless or Cat5 connect threw routers. I will see if this configuration works better or not and get back to you.

Nope both wireless computer are hooked up on static IP, and the main system assigns its own, which is the first Ip allowed by the router which does not intefer with the TS Server wireless Static IP.
Any Suggestions?I still can only connect in LAN connection, any WAN or outside connection do not work or forward properly. The servers show up with the correct IP on WEBPOST, but again will not anyone to connect to the outside IP (WAN) Address. Also Webpost usally shows the different rooms in the TS Server now they are blocked. This maybe a indication that my ports are not forwarding threw the router to the (WAN) IP. If I take my system down stairs and connect (CAT5) on the swtich side it works fine, not in the loop of the router. So I assume this means somehow the router is stopping the trafic threw, but my question is how is doing this, remember I have even tried DZ open to this LAN IP to be open to all, but this does work either...

PS: Getting quite frustrated with this router and the setup of the network, think a person needs a BA in computer networking to get this to operate properly.

OK,
Humm, funny thing happened here, I disabled Port Forwarding, & Disabled Port Triggering, and just enabled DMZ. And now the TS Server works Wirelessly, my Laptop is also on a wireless network and it works as well. But my main machine will not connect threw the router, unless I port fwd 0-64000 on the main machine in my router setup. But what happens then is the TS server does not connect to WAN and again I have an internal Lan connection will work, but it seems if I set port fwd or port trigger or both with DMZ enabled the TS server will not get by the router, but act in a lan mode. However if I coonect threw (Cat5) threw the switch with a seperate MAC provided by my ISP, and disable port FWD & Triggering and enable DMZ, this works well I connect WAN to Router to Lan to wireless TS Server.
Now that I have had success with DMZ, I will disable it and only set one up port fwd or port trigger or DMZ.So I guess the internal setup for the router can either be set to PORT Forward or Port Trigger or DMZ mod with IP, not all and only one setting.
To find a setting the works with either port fwd or pot trigger so the server will not be left completely open to attack. I will add my finding here, so everyone witht this router will not have to go for 3 days as I have to find a setting that will or will not work. You would think that the manual would explain that you should only use one of the three setting to fwd the ports. Or maybe this is only related to TS Server software and not other software.
Getting closer but I will add more findings here...In port forwarding section of the router setup, there is a space for application name to be entered it seems to be to small to enter server_windows.exe, now I don't know if you really need the exact name or just to open all port and leave this area blank so it will open for any application. Any event I renamed the server_windows.exe to tss.exe and added that name to this section...
Cheers

PS: Not really liking the setup area in the Linksys Router...

It all works now.
Any wireless or cat5 connected computer must connect using the ip provided by router for the ts server, however any computer outside the lan network will connect using WAN or external IP Address.
So that is that, will work in a wireless setting if your setting are correct, no one seemed to have this kind of information, and I found this out threw trial & error. Quite the pain in the A$$ if you ask me, neither the manual or anything told you not use both or all 3 options for port forwarding or port opening. For LinkSys Router, either use port forwarding or port triggering or DMZ setup for IP Address. DO NOT USE ALL at once, only use port forwarding or port triggering or IP DMZ, not all or both or two. Only use one of the three port forwardign or opening options...
Hope this helps anyone that needs information on this subject, as for me I done with this thread...Quick Answer
1> Set 8766 to 8768 to UDP - (Port Forwarding Area)
2> Set 14534 to 14534 to TCP - (Port Forwarding Area)
3> Set 51234 to 51234 to TCP - (Port Forwarding Area)
If you have a TS server that has more then one server running within the server you must ope the ports of the other servers as well, example the 8767 port is for your main server or most servers. If you have multi TS server server you willbe required to open that port, example ip address 100.100.100.100:8767 that would be your main server. If however you have a second server running on 100.100.100.100:8900 then you will have to open Set 8900 port to be forwarded as well, or you can set 8766 to 8900 to UDP...

Static IP Setting for Windows XP
1> Click on the Start menu, and then click on the Run option.
2> When the “Run” window appears, input control ncpa.cpl into the “Open” field.
3> After the “Network and Dial up Connections” or “Network Connections” window opens, right click on the Local Area Connection or Wireless Network Connection which controls the connection to the router.
4> After the “Local Area Connection Properties” or the “Windows Network Connection Properties” window appears, click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) then click on the Properties button.
5> Once the “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties” window opens, change the option from “Obtain an IP address automatically” to Use the following IP address. Set the options under “Use the following IP address” and “Use the following DNS server addresses” to the following:
Windows 2000/XP- IP: 192.168.1.20 (If there are multiple computers being setup with static IP's, then the next computer would be .25, and next would be .30, etc)
- Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
- Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
- Preferred DNS server: 192.168.1.1
6> Click OK then OK or Close.Last edited by Shadoe572; 03-07-2005 at 01:43.
