The novel lol
Okay I got this working and thought I should post since you got to help those that helped you; or your lame.
I would like to thank the TS team for the software; free since I am running this for a game/clan for a friend so we can play wow. Thanks so much.
I would like to thank the excellent users that posted solutions to the problems I had; they are there if you spend some time looking for them.
Okay the nuts and bolts
I am in auzzie land and my system is Windows XP SP2 with the windows security turned off, the free zone alarm firewall and a linksys router on cable.
My friend is east coast usa with an apple mac G# something or other system but them might has swapped to thier windows computer... unsure about that but they are running dsl.
Step 1
Down load the client
Step 2
Down load the server
Step 3
Installed the server to the default with an S so its whatever\Teamspeak2S_RC2; write down the usernames/passwords okay...
Step 4
Installed the client to the default so its whatever\Teamspeak2_RC2
Step 5
Started the server; WARNING, it just puts and icon in the lower corner of your pc so dont start it 5 times like I did as just once is good enough.
Step 6
Login to the server using the superadmin; if you did not write down the usernames/passwords uninstall or check the server log file... see another post on how to do it since I am lazy.
Step 7
Send me money as I accept all major credit cards, eftpos and even cash.
Step 8
Click global settings and use the help button in the rightish corner;
AdminEMAIL: na
ISPLinkURL: http://www.goteamspeak.com/
ISPName: Private
Country: Australia
I have 10 and 2 for the last 2 entries...
CLICK SAVE
Step 9
Select servers and delete the one that is there.
Then add a server
ServerName: Enter name here
ServerWelcomeMessage: Enter greeting here
ServerPassword: left blank
ServerMaxUsers: 5
ServerType: Clan
Allowed Codecs
Codec Celp51 all these are ticed but I ended up just running with the Speex ones.
Codec Celp63
Codec GSM148
Codec GSM164
Codec WindowsCELP52
Codec SPEEX2150
Codec SPEEX3950
Codec SPEEX5950
Codec SPEEX8000
Codec SPEEX11000
Codec SPEEX15000
Codec SPEEX18200
Codec SPEEX24600
Server WebPost PostUrl: left blank
Server WebPost LinkUrl: left blank
Server UDP Port: 8767
CLICK ADD
Step 10
Ensure that the server is running; if you can stop it then it is running; stop and start it a couple times just so you get the hang of it; you know you want to.
NOW start it and do NOT touch it anymore.
Step 11
Click on the servers again and past the delete button is the select botton so select your server and there are extra options on the left now; they might have been there before depending on what your were doing but make sure they are there.
Step 12
Click on SuperAdmin manager and create a SuperAdmin manager with a good password and you can either delete the default SuperAdmin manager or at least change the password to something really good. WRITE down the SuperAdmin manager/passwords since you will be stuffed and look/sound like and idiot to your friends if you have to reset this whole thing up just because you forgot a password.
Step 13
Go through the Server Permissions
- Server Admin
- Channel Admin
- Operator
- Voiced
- Registered
- Anonymous
and set them up how you want them; I dont know what they all do and I dont really care at this point in my life; my system is working so I will play with it and screw it up but that will be down the track. My advice is if it works dont touch it, dont play with it, dont even think about changing a setting or it will break in some way that will be beyond recovery and will be similar to the devestation/confusion that Mount St. Helens caused when it erupted.
Step 14
User manager
Enter the names of the users you want to allow access to your server including passwords; make them good and then email each user individually what this information is; but wait, dont email the information to them yet, just be aware that you will need to do this; I THINK IT IS CASE SENSITIVE, but I dont really want to test it at this point in time.
Step 15
User manager
Enter a name/password for your self and email it to yourself now so you dont loose it.
Step 16
Right click on the TeamSpeak Server icon in the lower right side of your computer or where ever it is if you changed your computers config since you want to be an individual; not a good thing really, on computers you all want to have the same settings/layout so no matter where you go you can look like you know what your doing rather then thinking to your self that your so slow since you have a differnet set up at home; people will think your stupid for doing that if you tell them. Anyways click on the Your IP's option and WRITE down the IP's if there is more then one write down all of them. I think two would be max; your local LAN and your internet WAN but you might just have one if your on dial up or something; unknown and I am a PLEB after all.
Its time for a drink, I will be right back.
Okay I am back
Step 17
Examine your IP addresses one should start with 192. and that should be your local IP and thats the GUN IP so get it ready. Gun is good but it has nothing to do with shooting bullets or other projectiles.
Step 18
Start your Client TS; you have got the TS server running right.
Step 19
Click on Connect and a Connect to Server pop should come up.
Step 20
Ensure it is on Local Addressbook and right click server in the window right below that and select Add and then enter a name of the connection; I would suggest using local12.
Step 21
Label leave alone. All to easy so not really a step by itself but it wants to be. The ULU or United Label Union movement is protesting and it is tied up in the courts at the moment.
Server address put your gun ip address followed by a colon followed by the port thus 192.168.1.1:8767 as an example; user your local IP address and your port.
Step 22
Put your username in the Nick name and Login name boxes; case sensitive.
Step 23
Put your password in the User password box; case sensitive.
Step 24
Click connect and you should be on
Side note: This connection is refered to as a local connection if anyone asks how or what are you trying to do. It does not go off your pc and basically goes straight from the TS client to the TS server program. If this connection does not work then check your settings for the correct username/password or ip address/port. No personal firewall/router should interfere with this type of connection provided that both the client and server are on the same PC. IF your client is on one pc and your server is on another pc on a LAN shut down the internet connection and close then close all personal firewalls and antivirus software and see if it willl work then; remember to reboot ensuring that the firewalls and antivirus software did not restart.
IF needed run the MSCONFIG from the start run box in windows and go to the start up tab and untic those firewall and antivirus programs from running but be careful as you could wreck your computer; stop it from working FOR GOOD, if you mess up with the MSCONFIG program; remember how to do this so you can tic those boxes again when you are finished testing and what those appications to start up when you start your computer BEFORE you OPEN your connection to the internet.
IF you still can not get the local connection to work I got no idea so dont even think about emailing or sending me a private message unless your giving heaps of money; I accept all major CC....
IF you could connect locally congrats but really its not a biggy so on to step 25
Step 25
Now get your other IP address from right clicking on the servers icon and selecting Your IP's.
Step 26
Click on Connect and a Connect to Server pop should come up.
Step 27
Ensure it is on Local Addressbook and right click server in the window right below that and select Add and then enter a name of the connection; I would suggest using remote12.
Step 28
Label leave alone. All to easy so not really a step by itself but it wants to be. The ULU or United Label Union movement is protesting and it is tied up in the courts at the moment. I had to put that clause in again due to accordance with the laws and legislation of the BLF; they arrived in the dead of nite at my house and they were really Big Large... er Friendly guys with baseball bats just out for a walk in the general neighbourhood so they say. By the way my physical mail box located at the front of my house was wrecked that morning but I am not in anyway suggesting that the big large friendly guys had anything to do with that but if anyone can shed some light on this neighbourhood watch would be interested.
Server address put your internet or wan ip address followed by a colon followed by the port thus 212.###.#.#:8767
Another side note: If you dont know your internet IP address use the following link that I found here on the forums from some excellent user that is in the know. I already knew about it but still it was nice of them to post it for people that were asking how to find out.
http://www.whatismyip.com/
Bonus side note: When I connect to the internet I always get the same IP address which is called a static IP address. Everyone in the world does not have an IP address like this as some may assigned a different IP address which is called a dynamic IP address. If your IP address is dynamic you will need to keep supplying people you want to connect to your TS server the new IP address each time it changes. You will need too speak to your ISP or the company that supplys your internet connection regarding this; just tell them you are interested in a static IP address assignment when you logon to the interent; they do not need to know what you are using it for despite what they say. Also some ISP companies do not want you to run a server; unless you use a more expensive run a server on the internet plan they have, so you might be violating the terms and agreements if you do not tell them; its on your own head how you want to proceed and I am not liable in any way shape and/or fashion and I have mates in the BLF now and they travel... and drink a lot of beer so dont even think about trying to blame me.
Also a nifty thing to know is that your internet conenction can expire; when you logon to the internet you get a lease and that will expire at a given time/date and if you are still staying connected to the internet then your lease will renew; er it should renew. But once this person was having problems so I actually checked the log files on the server so I did not actually see it happen but rather saw the results and got the proof for the user where some one was issued a new IP with thier new lease so thier ip address was changing every once in a while even though they were not disconnecting.
Go to the start programs then accessories then command prompt. Type ipconfig /all <then press the enter key> yes there is a space inbetween the g / and now you should see the lease details.
So if you get it working and then it stops working or people have trouble connecting the next day when you logon check your IP addresses; is it they the same as it was before; I have seen this complaint a bit so I just thought I would make a brief mention here.
End Bonus side note:
Step 29
Put your username in the Nick name and Login name boxes; case sensitive.
Step 30
Put your password in the User password box; case sensitive.
Step 31
Click connect and you should be on. If your on great if not your are SOL and we are all laughing at you; but wait your not a complete loser, in fact your probably not a loser at all. You just probably dont know everything there is to know about computers and IT and routers and firewalls. I got news and that is NO ONE DOES and if people say they do know everything then chances are good they read one book and now think they are an expert.
Step 32
Your thinking arg it did not work $%#@!
Step 33
Have a look at your system; keep in mind that this is a remote connection to your TS server and your connection is now going out of your computer, on to the internet; probably bouncing off your ISP's server and then back into your computer.
Are you running a firewall; I run the free zonealarm and I found this excellent post from an excellent user with screen shots; really this person probably already has a chest so lets just give them a medal to put on it that says they are worthy; very worthy. But not too big of a medal since they still need to get thier head out the door, but a little head swelling is good now and then. NICE JOB BBD

Stolen quote from the link above. "find both Teamspeak.exe and server_windows.exe and give them green checks across the board (See pic)"
Okay so all I did was allow access to the two programs that this user pointed out; one for the server and one for the client and if you have any questions regarding this check thier post as they have step by step, detailed, fantastic, amazingly easy to understand instructions.
If your running another firewall... well still have a look and maybe it will help a bit; I only know zonealarm so dont bother sending me any emails or private messages unless it is heaps of money and did you know that I accept... okay okay... people I know tell me I have a fixation on money... what do they know... I always end up fixing thier computers for free and they give me one measly cheap generic no name beer; I think they are cheap and just using me for my good looks. I keep telling them to get thier eyes checked and to take a beginners computer course; but they dont have time... oh but they have time to stand there and ask a zillion quesitons while I am trying to figure out that they did, which they can not remember as it was working and then they just turned it off and then when they turned it back on it was not working all of a sudden, but then why is the the windows system32 directory in the recycle bin... oh is that important... they were just trying to clean up some space... on thier 120 gig hard drive that is not even near half full; go figure.
Okay so thats set and it is still not working so what about your router and have you forwarded the ports; er what ports and what is forwarding... arg $%#@!
Another excellent user here posted this port forwarding site which I did not know about; cough... cough, but I knew how to forward of course since I game a bit; just a bit lol
Check out and read it.
http://www.portforward.com/
But wait you dont want to know... er okay click on FORWARD at the topish of the web page and then select your router from the lisitng and then on the new page click on the applciation that you want to set up like TeamSpeak in the T section and remember to put in your local static ip digits which of course I did not need to use.
Once you have forwarded the ports... do all three and remember 8767 to 8768 for the first one and then your firewall you should try the remote connection to your server again.
If you can not get a remote connection to your server working then there is no point in telling your friends to try to link up as the chances are very high they will fail also.
Check your settings; IP
ort <- arg that was not intended as an insult, its these stupid smilies I guess so > ip
ort <maybe that will work> I will try <ip
ort> just in case; for crying out loud I will put a couple of spaces in so check your settings IP : port; take that smiley
Ensure that the user you are trying to logon with has been set up on the server; not required but I would recommend it.
If you do get onto your server remotely then give out your usernames/passwords that you created in the user management section to the people you want to be albe to logon.
Read up on Server Permissions as you dont what other people being able to delete other people; you are supposed to be the administrator and only you should be a Server Admin in my opinion. If some moron keeps shutting down your server everyone will think it is you so figure these permissions out; the TS team put them there for a reason.
Anyways I feel better now that I made an effort to help out; thanks for the read if you made it this far you spend too much time on the internet, your bored out of your mind, or you have no life so try and get that someone special like I am... arg my dog wants to be fed again... I fed her like 10 hours ago... man she is so demanding... next thing she will want a walk again... like I did this morning before breakfast.
Thanks again to the TS team for the great free software.
Thanks again to the people that did some excellent posts so I could get up and running.
Thanks to my gaming buddy that tested the remote connection to get it working, and then tested the remote connection again to get it working, did I mention that the ytested the remote connection...; been gaming with this person for probably 5 years and I first heard thier voice the other day. Not a great quality but thanks TS for this. You are bringing the world together
Sorry for any mistakes I made; they are unintentional or by accident or most likely a mistake on my part.
Good serving
Hope this post is not goona get me into too much trouble
