TS server problem
I've read all the forum news concerning server problems and i know that iam having the same problems as others are but can't seem to solve. Note: I'm dumb as a box of rocks when it comes to this kinds stuff.
I want to set up TS server on my work computer and have my co-workers access it at nite when we get together for wwiiol.
Equipment:
1 Dell server running 5 computers.
OS-Win98se and server uses window NT
3com 56k lan modem
Linksys 16port Hub 10/100
What i do know is I can access the ini file thru window and
set my passwood= and IP=, I left server name alone. I configure
the server IP to be local using 127.0.0.1 gave my home computer
the IP for this work computer that iam at. BTW on the ini file access thru windows i saw just the tcpport cant find or see this UDP port that gets mention from time o time in the forums. Iam very weak on the DOS commands since 3.1 don't use dos anymore and have forgotten most things about dos commands.
I know I've missed something so i''l be most grateful for any advice share
Oh the problem is that others ppl computers can't find host or no computer found on the other end. Error 10060, socket error etc.
Regards
Gridiron

127.0.0.1 won't work. That's the "loopback" address used only by a computer to talk to itself. You need to use the address of the network card that's connected to the Internet. Use "ipconfig/all" to list all the network cards and their addresses.

OK, did that and it list my IP address no others. I put that in but "no route to server or host" "no computer on other end" The ipconfig/all in Dos did not show the other 4 computers at work and there IP's. Iam ready for more advise

Yep 127.0.0.1 will surtenly stop your TS Server from functioning

It isn't recommended to add the IP= some people have reported problems when they did.

ok i left my ini file that i accessed thru windows at pw= and IP= blank then i put my IP and password on thru the settings command at the client in the following "server" 10.1.5.209
"password" woot. still " no route to server error" One note. iam i suppose to change my windows ip configuration from the ppp adapter to the one below it when i click on the down arrow. That brings up the IP address and default IP.

Let's separate a few issues:
First, to get several workstations on a LAN to access a server on a LAN, that's not too hard. Can you ping the server from the client? In a command window on a client, type "ping xx.yy.zz.aa", substituting the address of the server in the ping command. That address is what you give to the TS client to connect to the server.
Second, to connect to the server from home, the server has to be visible to the Internet. Does it have an Internet address? Is there a router between it and the Internet? IOW, how are things wired together? What's the path from home to the server?
"No route to host" is a low-level networking error. Using ping, figure out why you're getting that, then worry about getting TS working.

Ok, iam home from work and registered myself as baslone but iam gridiron at work.
I did ping my client to our server at work and it was good.
I went home and pinged my computer at work from my home.
Host unreachable-4 packs sent-4 rec and 0 lost. i did ping my
lan modem and got "unreachable host" 4 packets sent 4 recieved
0 lost. I also pinged the sever from home and got "unreachable host" 4 packets sent 3 recieved 1 lost.
Now i cant ping out from work to my house, maybe because iam on a wireless system here. Note cant host either.
I dont have a router as far as i know, i have a lan modem that
goes to a linksys "Hub" should be a straight shot thru to all the computer being supported by it but i guess not. Concerning the server at work..it does not have internet access. It's set-up so people cant get in, hence the linksys"Hub". we by-pass our server is what i've been told by someone at work.
Well that's what i can tell you for now. Thanks for the pinging tip. seems to be the problem of getting in and out of my work place. I appreciate all the help.
