Can't connect to server - not on router

I've used the teamspeak client for a while, no problem with it.

Today I decided to try the teamspeak server, and set up a server on a computer connected to the internet by a cable connection. This computer is not behind a router. Added the server to my firewall (sygate pro - last pro version before symantec bought it out) to allow it thru the firewall - no one can connect to the server. So I turned the firewall off, no one can connect to the server. I'm using the default settings as they were installed by the TS server software except I set a server password. The error everyone is getting is a port error. Tried changing the port but people still can't connect. The server seems to detect the proper IP address of the computer and i can login to the server with my own teamspeak client using the IP address and port, but others can't. Is there some sort of special configuration thats needed for a cable model/connection set up?

The planetteamspeak test web page doesn't show any errors.

I've read the forums but every 'can't connect to my server' type posts the answer always seems to be something about routers and this computer is not behind a router so i don't think thats the problem.

    Help please

    Thank You

Some firewalls block certain connection types as well as programs/ports. It might be blocking their connection because of how they're connecting. YOu must fix this in your firewall.

But it still does it with the firewall turned off, so its not a firewall problem. Thank you for the suggestion though...any more thoughts?

    Thank You

then others should be able to connect to yoru TS server (with the proper IP : port info of course). I might give us some more infor about the error, do they get a timeout (let them check the log file) ?
