This problem is because your mic is not the only device selected in your recording controls.
For Windows XP:
Click "Start" (Bottom left of your screen) -> "Control Panel" -> "Sound, Speech and Audio Devices" -> "Sound and Audio Devices" -> "Voice" tab -> Click "volume" under voice recording and make sure that only your mic has a checkmark under it

I have the same problem and I did what Vegii said:
And I have 'Stereo Mix' selected but none others, It won't let me select 'Microphone', and when I try to un-select 'Stero Mix', nothing happens.
When I try to click the box under microphone nothin happens, it just stays unticked. I know my microphone works, and is plugged in properly. I have only ever had a problem since last night when I installed my new surround sound system. I've done everything I can think of but, nothing just seems to work. If anyone can think of another way, please share it with me.
All help appreciated,
Regards,

You guys must have another mixer controlling your soundcard. Find out how to access that and do the common troubleshooting problems with that mixer.
There are some posts around here about that, but you will need to search... or wait for a reply with someone kind enough to link it for you. Or you can find any documentation you have for your soundcard... or motherboard if it's onboard.
This also may or may not help: http://teamspeak.buddha.eu.com/indexeng.htm
If you still have problems, find out what soundcard you have, if you have onboard, what chipset. Do a search in the forums based on your ssoundcard/chipset...
santa cruz, cmedia, realtek have problems with input feeds as it's common for these devices to bleed wave sounds into the other input(mic) feeds.
IF this is the case.. and you have went through all the problems in the forums and everything you have tried fails...
buy another soundcard. either a good one for your gaming needs ($100+) or just something to throw to have an additional card for teamspeak( under $10)... or get a nice USB gaming headset.
Someone I know bought some USB 5.1 headets for like $30-35... He likes them. dont know the brand or anything.
But there's some alternatives if all else fails.
But.. go through all troubleshooting procedures before continuing on the purchase route. do a forum search... read the faq... etc...
